I was there!! Margaritaville, Myrtle Beach -- May 4th, 2006
Got back from his performance about an hour and a half ago, and have some insight for ya'll. Now, I wasn't one of the fortunate 300 + people in the restaurant for the private show, but I was able to stand on the deck by the outside bar with about 55 lucky fans who were picked to go up and watch from the outside deck and peer into the restaurant through the oversized windows. My experience follows:
Left work from Sunset Beach, NC at 4:45 and got back home in Myrtle around 5:30 -- went straight to the "venue". When I got there, security was hand picking fans to go up and watch from the outside deck (where you could see Jimmy through the oversized windows). It was actually pretty cool -- Margaritaville was playing the concert throught their outside speakers. Jimmy started at 5:00 so I missed a good deal of his performance, but I made it in time to hear him perform Changes IACIL, Fins, and Margaritaville......so I was happy I just got to see him perform.
After the concert, I ran to the entrance to catch him running to his limo with security and snapped a quick picture on my cell (which turned out ok...not great). I got my yelling in " Come back to Myrtle...to maybe the House Of Blues ".
Margaritaville started to let people in then after Jimmy left, and I took it upon my own to ask people that went to the show how they get their tickets. What I found out didn't really surprise me, but it kind of disappointed me. There were a few that said they won theirs through the radio, but MOST PEOPLE there said they got their tickets handed to them from the Margaritaville staff and certain "contacts". That really made me stop and think about how unfair this whole thing was. I kind of figured that not everyone won their tickets through the radio contest. So this was a type of promo gig. I bet that most those people that went just wanted to be "seen" and weren't really there to see the great Jimmy Buffett. There could have been better planning to ensure that actuall Jimmy Buffett fans made it in to see the man. Just very disappointing to know that this went down. But don't get me wrong, I DID HAVE A GREAT TIME!! PLEASE come back to Myrtle, Jimmy!!!

Sunset Beach is my Margaritaville. Where there is endless beach, no time, and sunshine that seems to last forever. I know that Someday I Will.....Someday.
Hey, thanks for posting about Myrtle Beach. We heard Jimmy talking to y'all outside.
The crowd there sure seemed to appreciate the show even if they weren't huge parrotheads.
I guess the friends and family of CIP folks deserve to go just as much as anyone. That way it turned out to be more LOCAL folks, huh?

Same question, in that case. Was this Jimmy solo? Beach Band? Full CRB?

The good thing is that it was mostly a local crowd. Jimmy played along with Meyer, Guth, Mac, and that's all I could see from the outside. So he didn't play solo. King of like a lil' Coral Reefer Band. But then again, the stage there isn't big at all.

Cool! Glad the local folks and the employees' friends and family got a good deal!SouthernSeas wrote:The good thing is that it was mostly a local crowd. I was also one of the lucky ones who was allowed to view the show from the deck. Unfortunately I waited 7 hours (arrived in Myrtle from Charleston at around 10) to get that deck view. I was hoping to catch Jimmy walking around before the show but the car he was riding in dropped him off right in front of the door and then he left no less than 5 minutes after he played Margaritaville. He pretty much just played and that was it. He said he was surfing in Florida in the morning then went to Nashville played Myrtle and then was off to Jazz Fest, so I guess it was a busy day. I was able to snap a few pics of him getting in and out of his car but that was about it. It seemed that there were more parrotheads outside on the decks than inside but ohh well, the concert was a blast anyways! I'm glad to say that I was part of that show. See you in Charlotte!

SGH, I guess it was Mac, Peter, Jim, and Roger.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Was it on RM? Guess I wasn't paying attention...springparrot wrote:Great show---sounded like he was having fun![]()

At one point, it sounded like pedal steel, but then Jimmy joked about Doyle being Pete. He mistakenly introduced Roger as Robert. So it was confusing as to who was really there.
He introduced Mac, Peter, Jim, and Roger, so I guess that's it. (I was just relistening to make sure what I remembered.)

Will second you on the "mini CRB" - that's what I head after just now listening to my recording. Didn't catch that when I just listened to the posts during the show.conched wrote:SGH, I guess it was Mac, Peter, Jim, and Roger.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Was it on RM?
