My mom is 76 and she loves going to the shows. And, going down the water slide on HOOT ISLAND.
For her first show about 12 years ago, I made sure she had a few CD's to listen to so she would know something more than the parrothead anthem!

Gentilly ... 42 years is a long time to wait .... a Northeast Texas woman can hope.

My parents and another couple their age (73-77) went to the Wrigley show last year. They were familiar with Wrigley (from ball games) so that was fine. I'd never put my parents on the lawn for a Buffett concert...and they're still in relatively good health.
A pavilion seat for your mom would be great...and just tell her to expect crowds. Unless she absolutely hates crowds, she should be just fine. I hope she enjoys the show...let us know!

If not for a conflict with my aunt flying in from Oregon to visit my Mom and Dad on the day of the show, they would probably be going with us to Charlotte this year. They haven't been to one of the shows yet but they can't wait to go. They'll both be 70 next year and I thank God every day that they have the health to be able to do the things they want to do. I would definitely suggest seats rather than lawn, though.

Just a couple of things:
A few years ago, I sat next to an elderly couple at a show in the pavillion in Cincinnati. They seemed to really be enjoying themselves, but they understandably so could not stand up for long periods of time. When the show first started, they stood up, but after about 3-4 songs, they sat down. Then, they started tapping the people in front of them on the shoulder and asking them to sit down. The people in front of them gave a really dirty look and of course refused to sit down. Witnessing this, I felt for the elderly couple, but I certainly was on the side of the people who refused to sit down. I think all of us here know that you just don't sit at a JB show. And, plus even if they had sat, in order to see, the elderly couple would have had to have gotten everybody else between them and the stage to sit, so it really didn't matter whether the people directly in front of them sat anyway. So, just be sure that she understands that if she wants to see the show, she'll have to stand.
Also, just be sure that she is not going to be upset with having to fight through the crowds and the drunks. As I'm sure you know, getting out of a JB show is a zoo when you've got 20,000 people all headed for the door at once, and it is usually pitch black. Just be sure that she'll be able to handle that okay.
Other than that, take her along. And, if she persists in saying that she'll look out of place, show her the Live at Fenway DVD where the lady celebrating her 83rd birthday has the sign that says, "A Pirate Looks at 83. This is where she wants to be."
I am glad that you want her to be able to share in this experience. That is a great thing you're doing.

If you can still move...you are not too old.
The older generation needing to sit more IS a point tho...then again, I was at Jacksonville last year and a friend's wife (in her late 30's) sat the WHOLE SHOW! I finally got tired of worrying over her ability to see and said 'Sorry I'm blocking your view and shaking my butt in your face!"...another dirty look!!!
Anyhow, if they can handle it at any age...GO!

There's a couple in our parrothead club who are both in their 70's. They attend all the Alpine concerts with us every year and also go to all of our local events AND to M.O.T.M. in Key West every year. And GOD ALLMIGHTY, can they ever light that dance floor on fire.
Also, my 80-year old father, although he's never been to a Jimmy Buffett concert, does have THREE of his albums (Havana Daydreamin', Hot Water, and Far Side of the World).
and his oh-so-handome oldest child is seriously considering giving him Beach House On the Moon AND the Box Set for Father's Day

unless you are right down front, dead center, you aren't going to see that much anyway. (Rumour has it that Jimmy is a bit taller than inch-high in real life.) It's more about the music, being there with friends and family, and all.Gypsy In The Palace wrote:Just a couple of things:

Although he's not much bigger than I am in real life (I would be surprised if he was any taller than 5'6" in real inches, rather than man inches).RinglingRingling wrote:(Rumour has it that Jimmy is a bit taller than inch-high in real life.) But it's really not an age thing, it's an attitude thing- my parents are too old for a show (although they have been to one), but they're too old for just about everything, and my mom is younger than Larry.
My ship she has a rudder, but I don’t know where to steer
WooHoo! My mom was 65 at her first show 3 years ago. Our youngest child was 9 at the same show. It was an absolute blast. My mom looked so darn cute in her grass skirt and Hawaiian shirt! Some lady from Canada had friends back home who didn't believe that people really dressed up as much as we were so she took a picture of our 3 generations of ParrotHeads. I wish I had a copy of it, but alas, being caught up in the moment, we didn't think about exchanging personal info. Oh, and my Ma wasn't even a Phan at that point - she went for the Cultural Adventure.MargaritaMatt wrote:My grandmother was 66 when she sent to her first show two years ago. She told me this winter she wanted to go to another one in the next couple years.
Also, at this show, we had seats up in the Section 300 nosebleeds (to accomodate the number of us going). My Ma was just fine with climbing the stairs. Keep that in mind - the physical effort your Ma may have to endure going up flights of stairs.
My Ma was fine 3 years ago going up the stairs. 1 1/2 years ago going up a hill winded her.
