Havana Island Bamboo Bar from Sam's

Well, we finally got our Tiki Bar. I know, people were commenting on how Jimmy sold out - his fake smile... etc....,, But we NEEDED that tiki bar! We've been calling Sam's club almost every day when finally they said yes - they have it. We drove to the club an hour way - the closer clubs didn't have it- and brought home our GIANT box. Giddy with excitement, we open our box at home only to find mold - and tons of it. Some of the funkiest mold I've ever seen! As we took pieces of the bar out of the box, and got closer to the middle of the box it only got worse - the mold a half inch thick in places... black, yellow, green, white!! ugh!!! Didn't take us long to realize this was not something we wanted to deal with in the garage at 10:00 at night - so we closed it up and went inside. Thankfully, we have a pressure washer, and it looked like the bar itself was okay structurally - just covered in mold!
The next day(yesterday) we called another Sam’s - this one was much closer - and they said they had just got one in!! Woohoo! we're saved! We called, explained the issue and asked them to check the one they had in stock. She called us back after 15 minutes..... same thing... theirs was covered in mold too!

It looks like the bars were build with raw bamboo, that had not dried before construction. The middle pieces are still green.

We decided to try to clean it with our pressure washer and some bleach - and whola! Perfect. Its all done - on our patio - perfect, as it was intended... But - oui! That mold was nasty. oh yea - a few stow away spiders too!

A huge pain - but worth it - its really fantastic! Super stable and HUGE!! Now if this freggin rain would stop we could break in it!

:)

You must be more patient than myself...if I had to go through all that trouble for something that I paid good money for...then I wouldn't be singing its praises, but more cracking on Sam's Club for selling such a thing. Nonetheless, I'm glad your Tiki Bar fiasco worked out for you! PHINS UP!!

Your patience paid off.... glad you got the Tiki bar up and ready for partying.

I purchased bamboo screens with the same problem... a little bleach water and they were fine.

Love the name.... L2Finz2R :)

Jimmy wants you to buy his $250 blender, too. Did you pick up one of those?

Glad to see you made the best of such a bad situation but what did you expect to get from Buffett's deal with the devil (Sam's Club)?

Delaney is down to skin and bones... or is that Cameron? What with the cost of food courtside at Heat games, it's not like Jimmy can afford to buy him a hot dog during the game.

LOL Somehow I think if Jimmy never sold another CD, tiki hut or blender.... they would still be in good shape for many years to come.

If you're interested in one of these, each Sam's Club only got four....the mold problem you ran in to was rampant with these and they had to destroy a lot of them.
Did it come together sturdy? The one I looked at at our Sam's looked kind of wobbly....too wobbly for $500

It is sturdy - after we finished assembling it, we went back and tightened up the screws and it was much better. And it was amazingly easy to assemble.

Its not ROCK SOLID - but I've seen MUCH worse.

I looked at it too and I'm tempted....very tempted.
My son is the receiving manager at sam's. They got a memo about the mold and we supposed to open and inspect every box.....apparently your club didn't get the memo....or doesn't have a FANTASTIC receiving manager like my kid!!

$500? For that much money one could harvest their own bamboo and build their own tiki bar without having to go through Sam's or the mold epidemic.
