Battery question

Post by stinkyfeet »

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with buying replacement batteries for camcorders. I was looking in the store for them and the cost is astronomical!! $80 or more!! E-bay has the same battery for fractions less. They are not JVC batteries but they will obviously fit my camera. I'm a little confused. Should I buy factory original or take my "chances" with one on e-bay?

You might try a place like batteries.com and buy a name brand (Duracell/Energizer) replacement. Buying stuff off of ebay (if the seller is not an authorized reseller) can sometimes mean you don't get the manufacturer's warranty, which means you're out of luck if it damages your camera.

They are high...but not that high. We have a sony, and got an off brand and it worked just fine.

Did you try Best Buy/Target/etc...?

Yep. Bought it from BB. The handbook says to use only JVC batt. but I feel certain that is just for sales purposes. Lots of internet sites have them ranging from around $4 (ebay) to $80 (BB) I just wish I knew why there was such a range in price. If I knew the $4 battery would perform just as good, I'd be a fool for not getting it...........right?

I shop a lot from eBay, but only deal with sellers with a high positive feedback and good service.
Plus you some things on eBay are lower due to their lower overhead.

I buy all my batteries on e-bay. I always buy from the member all-batteries. Great deals,, has everthing you need. I've never had a problem.
Just my two cents.

They wouldn't happen to sell laptop batteries would they? I am MURDER on batteries...from laptops to watches (I can't wear them) to cell phones.....there is just something that drains them when I am around. (Don't laugh...I am not the only one this happens to!)

Right now, my laptop needs a new battery......it refuses to hold a charge. This is the third different laptop that this has happened with. My husband has an identical laptop (they were are anniversary presents to each other last year) and his is fine. **sulk**

Do not. I repeat, do not buy no name batteries for camcorders, laptops or cell phones from anyone. Buying the Duracell or Energizer batteries is okay, but not the no name brands. These cheap batteries are known to overheat and EXPLODE in the device that they are powering! That's the reason they are so cheap. Also, if anything ever happens to the device and they find one of those batteries in it you are S.O.L.
You spent how many hundreds or thousands of dollars on something and you are worried about $80 for a battery? I don't get it. I'll bet you don't put the cheapest tires you can find on your car? I think you see my point.

I think Port pretty much hit the nail on the head. Especially when you consider all the name brand laptop batteries that have been recalled for their risk of catching fire in the past year. If the name brands have been recalled that says something about the off brands IMHO.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.
