Yep, Schooner Wharf bar for the margaritas.
Blue Heaven for breakfast.
BO's Fishwagon for fish sandwich.

And when you're around the library, watch out for the birds that hang around on the utility lines. They poop a LOT! We're still laughing about Mike getting pooped on his head, walking around not knowing it.......

Sounds like someone had a good time.

Reading all of this brought back great memories. I had forgotten about El Siboney and the Southernmost Hotel.
I would definitely get to Blue Heaven soon. It seemed when I was there that it too was losing the battle and becoming "touristy." :-?

I will pass on the absolute best suggestion I got when I went in March...........

HAPPY HOUR AT KELLY'S!
Image

It's on Whitehead Street, one block off of Duval down Caroline Street. Drink prices are unbeatable, the staff is the friendliest people you will ever meet, and the people around the bar and very cool to talk to and relax with.

Here's a review from TripAdvisor.......
Without a doubt the most popular restaurant is Kelly’s Caribbean Bar, Grill, and Brewery at the corner of Caroline and Whitehead, at the original home of Pan American Airways. During happy hour, from 4:00 to 7:00, Kelly’s serves the best $2.50 margueritas on the island. The best $1.50 micro brews. The best $2.50 chicken wings (order the hot sauce but on the side). And the best $2.50 conch fritters. You cold start every evening sitting at the bar which overlooks the garden at Kelly’s. Somehow they’ve arranged for a cool breeze to blow every day.

P.S: You've got to try the chocolate-covered frozen Key Lime pie on-a-stick from the Blonde Giraffe! It is a slice of heaven. Also, if you go to get a beer at Captain Tony's around 9 or 10, look over in the corner and you may just see the Captain himself sitting there enjoying himself. (See pic below)

  :wench:

It's kinda funny, when I wanted to go to Key West, I was thinking of salty water, palm trees, live music, and the "character" and nostalgia of the town.

But in retrospect, by the title of this thread I started and our actions down there, in both the drinking we did and the keeping track, I think subconsciously my blurred focus was in getting and being drunk! 8)

5 Bros. Deli for Cuban Sandwiches
Dennis Pharmacy to try the lunch counter.. if it is still there

I had heard that too, or at least that they were getting towards doing it. Did not know they had gotten to that construction point yet tho.

I wish I would have known that Wed morning... I stayed kitty corner at the Southernmost Hotel, but didn't know it was there until Wed evening.

I would have walked over for breakfast or lunch, instead of settling for a Snickers and a Mountain Dew...

fingers crossed here as well, and what you get at the Dennis would have been a lot more nutritious.. :) (and there is more caffeine in the Cuban Cafe con Leche than the MD) :D
