Who gives **** if a soldiers dies

I got this in an email from a friend and wife of a soldier that is in Iraq.
Evidently it was written by a soldier.
There is no author attributed to it.
There is a list of names of active duty troops that have signed it.
For now I will leave off their names.
You may decide to copy it and to email it. You may hate it. That is for you to decide to do.
GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS AND KEEP THEN SAFE AS POSSIBLE.
MAY GOD ALSO ALLOW THEM TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE AND ACCOMPLISH THE MISSION AND TO WIN IN IRAQ!!!
Thank you!!!
*************************************************************
Take a man and put him alone,
Put him twelve thousand miles from home.
Empty his heart of all but blood,
Make him live in sand, in mud.
This is the life I have to live,
This the soul to God I give.
You have your parties and drink your beer,
While young men are dying over here.
Plant your signs on the White House lawn;
"Lets get out of Iraq".
Use your signs and have your fun,
Then refuse to use a gun.
There's nothing else for you to do,
Then I'm supposed to die for you?
There is one thing that you should know;
And that's where I think you should go!
I'm already here and it's too late.
I've traded all my love for all this hate.
I'll hate you till the day I die.
You made me hear my buddy cry.
I saw his leg and his blood shed,
Then I heard them say, "This one's dead".
It was a large price for him to pay,
To let you live another day.
He had the guts to fight and die,
To keep the freedom you live by.
By his dying, your life he buys,
But who gives a ***** if a Soldier dies!
If you give a ***** repost it and let ppl know you do
If you are in the Military add your name to the list

I think we all, as the e-mail crassly puts it, "give a *****" when human lives are lost.
These lines caught my eye:
I'm already here and it's too late.
I've traded all my love for all this hate.
I'll hate you till the day I die.
You made me hear my buddy cry.
Who does the soldier hate? Why did his love have to be traded for hate? Too late for what? Who made him hear his buddy cry?

I think the writer is referring to either George Bush or Donald Rumsfeld.

I think the writer is referring to either George Bush or Donald Rumsfeld.
Or just in general whomever sent him/her overthere. I don't think it has to be specific to this war.
Edit: Obviously the line about Iraq is specific, but I think the overall idea can be applied to any war, especially if it's unpopular.

Actually that is a lot like Jimmy Buffett's music.... either you get it or you don't. If you do get it is easy to understand. If you don't get it, there is no one who can really explain it to you.
If you get it, and you don't want them to do the job and for them to do it right and to finish and complete the job.....if you don't think such conduct means anything personal to a soldier ( they are individuals and people too, after all they were there and know far better than anyone and saw and experienced what they saw).
Of the deaths and sacrifices of their friends and brothers and sisters bleeding and being wounded and dying and means so little to some people who have no clue.
That they must be brought home with their tail between their legs and face the shame of knowing what they went through and the what they saw and the people they lost, and they were not allowed to finish simply because of popular and media opinion.
That wounded soldiers transported here in America have to face the signs that they had to see on thier way into Walter Reed. Tell me who that loves and cares about troops would do such?
The thing is a true leader knows sacrifices must and will be made. That does not mean the leader enjoys them, or looks forward to, or wants them to happen. Regrets that they must be made and do happen. Everyone of the troops volunteered. They KNEW THE RISKS INVOLVED.
Your opinion is your own and wanting to bring them home before they finish is an insult to at least some of them....ever consider that it might be those who sit back and have thought they will not be allowed to finish or complete the mission and have to fight it again elsewhere and not only will their brothers and sisters and perhaps themselves not only sacrificed so much, but others will too, simply because they were not allowed to do their job.
That is clearly your choice to and Freedom of choice to make. You have the Right to that Freedom. Just remember WHO is protecting that Freedom and that Right for you. How someone else feels and how that individual soldier feels is his or Right. At least they know something and experienced something, but will probably tell you they know nothing if you ask, and I don't blame them!
I tell every troop I meet, WELCOME HOME!!! and MEAN IT AND A HUG!!! and buy them a beer or perhaps offer a meal if interested in such, and talk with them, if they so choose.
Who do they hate and why do they hate? Perhaps not all of them hate, but think about it and see what you can come up with.

In some respects your capacity to reason is only exceeded by your propensity to expound.
You have my blessing.

But HATE? Why all the hate?
The poet says "traded all of my love for all of this hate?"
Seems as if knowing what you signed on for does little to preserve the love one feels. That is very sad.

The poem tells you why the hate and who they hate.
......
You have your parties and drink your beer,

There is the who and why the hate.
To see and have to deal with such as soldiers do and experience and see the carnage and bloodshed, while people party and protest the soldiers for doing their job, and not wanting them to complete the job and mission they were given?

This is the life I have to live,
So this means, (s)he has to live it, without a choice? Or that this is the one life (s)he gets . . .?

Think it through and eventually you may kow and perhaps understand where the person is coming from..then again you may not.
....Like the Jitterbug, it was so simple, it plumb evaded me....
They are a soldier and in the military. Obviously they were not drafted.
You pays your nickel, take your chances, and YOU DEAL with and ACCEPT the consequences and the responsibilities.

Not drafted in this war, no. So this is the choice the writer made, and this is the life (s)he chooses to risk. (S)he can hardly be full of hate for those who didn't choose to do such a dangerous thing as (s)he did.
So simple, you and I both get it. Good thing, too.

Actually I am not sure you get all of it....you got part of for sure, and yes it is good thing that we do get it and hopefully everyone may get it.
Keep thinking on it. Your original question was about who the writer hated and why. The answer is there. Understanding or even comphrehending what the writer experienced and saw and smelled and heard may not be concievable or even wanted to be thought of..let alone the grief and various emotions the writer was going through. Meanwhile someone sits back safe and sound, enjoying everyday life, and insults his/her's buddy's death. I don't know of anyone that could not experience such a situation and not have some feelings about it.
Perhaps in time the hate may change just as it did with the feelings of a lot of American people against the Japanese for the beheadings and bayonetting of pregnant women and other terrible things that were done.
Or perhaps it may not....
Some people become doctors, some people become soldiers, some people become policemen, some people become teachers, some people become lawyers, etc. People become what they will or must become.
People do what they know....
The soldier has a most valid point....and a Right to feel as he or she did.
He/She is there to protect the Rights of others, our way of life, but also has the Right as an individual and has feelings and emotions, too.
How could the soldier not go through such experience and be expected to love someone that does such to him/her and to his/her buddies?
Thankfully there are Men and Women just like him or her out there, serving and keeping us safe. and that do give a F*** ! 24/7/365 in all weather and climatic conditions. They know what they go through and give up to do the job, and feel it constantly. They are the ones away from home and loved ones and living the way they do. Yes they made a choice.
Just as the clueless protestor did, that the writer of the poem mentions.
May God Bless ALL of THEM, no matter who or what they Believe or do not Believe in, and keep them safe as possible and we would hope that one day, such a job would be uneccessary and no one ever have to experience such EVER again.
I don't see that happening anytime soon.......
