Except for the belt, that's how it was when I was in school too. It wasn't until my senior year in high school that girls were allowed to wear pants to school.
I am now officially old....Me too , Larry...

Um, I remember that in High School too. We could finally wear pants...except I was on the co-op program and we had to wear our work clothes to school so that they could make sure we were dressed property for the office

Before that, if girls wore pants they had to change when they got to school. They usually only did it on really cold days or when it snowed.

I wore one throughout all of my school years...and LOVED it! No worries about setting clothes out the night before or freaking out cause you can't decide what to wear...for girls at least...it was much easier! The only decision I had to make was what color sweater and socks to wear...I could choose from blue or green!
kitty in her school uniform, now that was last night's fantasy.....
As long as there is some variety, I could go along with it.
I didn't wear uniforms but my HS had a pretty rigid dress code, but allowed for individuality as well.
If you didn't follow it, you'd be sent home to change - and it was strictly enforced!
(Guys had to tuck in shirts, wear belts, etc...)
With guidelines like that, uniforms were unnecessary.
In spite of all the work we do, it’s the child in us we really value.
My first girl friend was a nieghborhood girl who went to the Catholic School. Circa 1973 white cotton blouse, navy plaid skirt, white knee socks......mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Even if they have the other 18 hours of the day and weekends/holidays to have freedom of choice?
Yep. If a parent wants to limit what their kid wears to school, so be it. If a parent wants to send their kid to a private school with uniforms, fine. But not in a public school. Dress codes are fine, as long as they leave room for personal expression...
I never liked the idea of people telling me what to wear at school when I was a kid, now that I have two teenage daughters and hearing them complain about fashion every morning. I'm starting to re-think the idea of having a school uniform.
