I was a senior in high school in 1999, which was the year that Beach House on the Moon came out. When she would finish teaching and we would start doing classwork, she would always play this really weird music! We started teasing her about it one day and telling her that we were going to bring in our own music for her to play.

I didn't say anything, but during that discussion, another guy in our class said that he was going to bring in the new Jimmy Buffett CD that had his famous song on it called "Math Suks" (remember this is precalculus!). A couple of days later, he brought it in. She looked at it and just rolled her eyes. But, to my surprise, she said, "I am an equal opportunity person. I'll play it!"

She put it in, and we listened to "Math Suks" in the classroom! I looked around, and the look on everybody's face was so funny! Well, she wasn't laughing at all! As the song played, she just kept shaking her head. When it finished, she took the CD out and said, "I am going to have to speak to Mr. Buffett!" :D

I have a good friend who teaches High School English as well as Journalism and heads the newspaper and year book staff. He is also the lead in a Buffettesque band...and a huge parrothead. He uses references all the time and I think the kids learn and love it!

I just made my Son's algebra teacher a cd as a end of the year gift. It starts with Math Sux. I added Jimmy Dreams (my keet also being named Jimmy!) and ended with Lovely Cruise. She LOVED it and she isn't a PH...at least not yet!
"Mommy, when is Jimmy Buffett coming to OUR house? We go see him ALL THE TIME??" (Actual quote from my 5 y/o keet)

I teach second grade in a rural school corporation. We play Fins and have the kids put their fins up when it's time to get things started. There's nothing funnier than seeing second grade Amish girls doing fins along with Jimmy. They raised money for Katrina and I bought them all Fins bracelets and shark hats. I'll try to post a picture later if I get a chance.

I had a lot of teachers who listed Jimmy among their favorite musicians, but I would not call them parrotheads... I wish I had some of the teachers in this thread! :pirate:

My oldest daughter's sophomore english teacher was a PH. If you answered a question with "I don't know." you had to stand up and sing or say the refrain from "Volcano". She would hand out a flash card with the lyrics, but was impressed when my daughter sang the refrain and the first verse from memory.   8) 8)

As for parrothead teachers, my 7th and 10th grade english teachers and my brother had a parrothead for a 9th grade computre course.

My mom and her teaching partners (they teach 6th grade in a catholic school) often try to work in what they call 'the teachings of JB' in how to treat people and life. Come springtime/summertime as the end of the school year approaches, they also have a tendency to decorate more and more with tiki/hula stuff everywhere. It's pretty cute :)
Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all..

I see that there are other PH teachers out there besides myself. I think with the younger students it is easy to listen to Jimmy due to the fact that they will listen to anything, but with the older students you have to be crafty with plugging his music into your lessons...mostly because they know what "WDWGDAS" actually means!! Nonetheless, I plug Jimmy into my lessons not just bec I enjoy the music (thats obvious) but I try to get the students to understand his lifestyle and care for others...just 2 of the traits that I see in his music! So, for all those PH teachers out there...commend yourself!!
