Summertime...

...when the sun has been beating down on the pavement all day, until 4:30 when the thunderstorm breaks loose for 25 minutes... then it's gone. The sunbeams pour under the retreating eastbound clouds and plumes of steam rise from the pavement with the smell of summertime and dead worms.

...when you go for a walk in bare feet, singeing your soles on the hot ground, but enjoying every painful minute, because you know that when the sun goes down you will be able to feel the residual heat under your feet for hours.

...when you go for a swim and then climb out of the water, but mere minutes later you are bone dry and ready to jump right back in.

...when a glass of ice water sitting on a white table, or a bleached deck, or even clean concrete gives off the most beautiful reflection in the sunlight.

...when even mowing the lawn sounds like a good excuse to get out and enjoy the weather.

...when you're fishing -- 'nuff said.

Favorite thing about summer is the first week of Sept., the beaches around here empty again. The fish are running, the water is wonderfully warm and there's even decent waves caused by offshore hurricanes. Not to mention the keets are back in school.
haha. I don't mind the tourists too much, except for my parking problems. But I do love May and September. We've gone to Smitty's a couple times now before it becomes insane and full of Pa. license plates.

I'll also list tomatoes. Gotta love good jersey tomatoes in the summer.

aahhh the eight month Florida summer...........

a fish on the line
kayaking
beach sand in your crack
HOT HOT HOT and sticky weather (I love it)
Relaxin in the pool (even if it is only 3 1/2 feet deep)
Loves bugs on your window
Cruisin around with the top and doors off the Jeep
And no wimpy sunblock!!!

What gets me is hearing all of these Floridians complaining about it being hot as if it all of a sudden is a new thing. My standard reponse is "welcome to Florida where it has been known to get hot. This did not just happen overnight"

Summer in the Sierra's, (I live near Lake Tahoe) is mountain wildflowers in bloom, warm days on a remote lake with the canoe and a cooler of goodies and adult beverages with Mrs. TR, fly fishing for trout, long hikes, rum drinks at the Beacon looking over the lake, staying out to watch the sun sets, more fly fishing for trout, and my favorite feeling at the end of a day...

a litlte tired,

a little hung over,

a little sunburned,

and so many good memories it's hard to go to sleep because everything inside you wants to get up and do it again :D
Hmmm...do you and Mrs TR wanna adopt me this summer? :)
