How loud do you listen to music?

My husband and kids always complain that my music is too loud. I'm not sure why, but I've always cranked it when I could... probably so I can't hear myself while I'm yelling along with the singing!
When I'm alone, and it's coming thru speakers as opposed to headphones, it's on "11"! (Or, as my minivan says, "max".)
When listening on headphones, I keep it at a moderate level. How 'bout you?
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

At home I don't play it very loud, because I get "the lecture" when I do.
In the car I play it pretty loud.

As loud as the speakers go without distorting the music. Gotta do what you gotta do to not hear the idiots.

Most of the time I like it pretty loud.....that way I don't have to talk to anyone while I'm listening!

I have a hard time w/ anything that is too loud. Even when I'm driving by myself I don't crank it too high, but still probably loud enough for the car "next door" to hear.
My ears are just super-sensitive to background noise so whether it's the TV or Stereo or sometimes having the window rolled down in the car just absolutely drives me up the freakin' wall. Same goes for washer/dryer noises, dishwasher, etc.
I think my biggest pet peeve on the planet right now is hubby crankin' up some of his crappy music while trying to have a conversation w/ me and both the kids in the backseat going *blah*blah*blah*blah*blah*blah*blah*
Calgon....take me away!!!

Well..the Plant City police think it was too loud last February....
I would say loud in the car but the windows don't shake... and @ home... loud at I can get it without distortion.

Loud enough so I can hear it, people 3 blocks away from me don't need to hear it. I called the cops twice because the guy across the street from me used to blast his music all hours of the night. You live out in the woods with nobody around, fine. There are other people around, have some consideration.

Great choices on the poll. Too clever!!
I had to pick "HOMER turn that radio down." I hear that a lot.
I enjoy listening for the sounds of each instrument, such as hearing that it is an accordian on
He Went To Paris on the MMIM version. I prefer quality to LOUD.
And as I have gotten older, I don't enjoy
loud as much since my ears started this ringing stuff. ENT says it's just old age.
We're pretty considerate with music out on the deck since our neighbors are really, really close.
Seems we get the same respect from all the neighbors around us NOW, but it wasn't always that way. I'm so glad THEY moved.

"Nice gift"
Just after the Christmas holiday, two retired farmers were having coffee at the town diner. One gentleman spoke up, "I just got the best Christmas gift ever - the finest hearing aid money can buy."
The second man asked, "What kind is it?"
The first man, looking at his watch, replied, "It's 2:30."

I'm a moderate-volume person. I'm more concerned with sound quality then volume... I'd take a good pair of speakers/headphones with a good quality source over a loud-ass stereo any day....

I usually keep it loud enough to hear clearly, but not loud enough that anyone has to raise their voice to speak over the music.
Basically just background music all the time.

I really should vote 'other'.
At work I play it very soft (iPod and speakers at my desk)...at home...pretty loud.

The more intoxicated I get, the louder the music gets.

Ever heard a band say this, "the more you drink, the better we sound"? Well, sometimes that may be true. And sometimes it does help if the band's suckitude level is unusually high but sometimes it has the complete opposite affect and only magnifies a band's inherent (and unshakable) suckiness. I hate when that happens.
