Thanks for the well wishes. As much as I hate it, I'm moving inland, yet again close to a military base (I've done time near Seymour Johnson AFB and Camp Lejeune), this time it's Fayettenom.

Jahfin wrote:This is not meant to overshadow the suffering endured by those along the Gulf Coast at all but Hurricane Ophelia is the straw that broke the camel's back for many of us here along the North Carolina coast. Due to Katrina and Rita coverage this storm amounted to little more than a blip on the radar screen to the national media (and FEMA). You won't see it on the news but quite a few people here are still homeless due to Ophelia.

We just put a new roof on our house in April because of that b**ch....metal this time....hopefully the last time.

.....and you're right. The wrath of Ophelia was ignored. Small potatoes in the whole scheme of things, I guess.

I found that out the hard way when I called FEMA. Not only was the person I talked to extremely rude but they refused to help many of the citizens of my area in any way. The storm may not have been as large as Katrina or Rita but it was just as devastating in a lot of ways. There's still quite a few people people here without homes who have received absolutely no help whatsoever from FEMA. No matter how you cut it, that's screwed up.
