Maybe it will make a few of you think.
:o Aye chihuahua! :o ((((((((Molly))))))))

THANK YOU!
You have made all the pain I went through worth it.

OMG-- I had always heard that they have to dig alot deeper than (I, for one) would think. I would always think that they'd just "nip" it off your skin, but that isn't the case. I think it may be (sadly) one those "it'll never happen to me" type things for most people-- just like smoking.

No one else seems to be paying attention.

I am, Molly.....I am strictly a sunscreen/hat girl now.
Just the few spots I had to have removed because they looked suspicious convinced me....I was most fortunate that they weren't cancer and I'll take that as my warning.
That looks horribly painful....you poor little peanut.

Have done it; never will again. Sunscreen and hat all the way. I still get colour even if I sit in the shade.

And beyond Miss Molly's cancer pics, have you seen what a sunworshipper's skin looks like at 50, 60, 70 years of age??? Ew.

I'm just wondering how the ones that said they kept them in there too long?

My daughter is in college and has 2 part time jobs...One at a tanning salon....The absolute longest any of them will go is 20 minutes...and it is preset from the computer at the front desk....I have heard Laura tell people that want to go in for 20 minutes...."No offense, but you're pretty light and that is just way too long for you. I'm going to set it for 8 (or 7 or 10..whatever) and we'll see how you do.

They cannot stay in any longer....It cuts off and cannot be started from the room....

So how does this happen? Was this before the automatic timers? I know when I used one...oh...10 or 12 yrs ago....even then...20 minutes was the longest..and it cut off....

Just curious...are people using them somewhere there IS NO automatic cutoff??

Whether there is such a thing or not, I don't know. However I DO know that burn, peel, burn, peel is not healthy.

I do believe.... depending on your skin type AND with SPF protection, sunglasses and hat..... AND in moderation ... a little color on my skin is healthy to my well being! Sunburn is not.

Me too Susan..

I tan really easy....I don't let myself burn...or peel..or get to that stage...but I'm like you...I turn brown after a few times out in the Sun...

and I just love the beach...Yes..I wear sunscreen..I wear it every day in my make up...but I still tan...even through it...

and always will.

Connie.....this was my first time in the tanning salon, I told the person that and she said she wouldn't keep me in there longer than 10 mins. I was there with a friend who had been there before, and she planned on staying in there for 20 mins..

She made a mistake and set my time for 20 minutes and my friend for 10.

I didn't mean you Jamie...someone else said it too...I just thought that 20 min is the longest....

I've seen you...you should NEVER go in for 20 minutes..I tan easy and I wouldn't do it!

I know....BB said she ended up with 2nd degree burns! Ouch!!!!

How long does one stay in for that to happen??

Oh, my bad!

Yeah, I am pretty white.....but believe it or not, I used to tan VERY easily. By looking at me, you couldn't tell I was part indian....I got most of my mother's Irish/Scottish blood in me, though.

My easy tanning days came to an end when I stayed in a hotel swimming pool for 8 straight hours when I was about 11 years old. Now THAT hurt! :-?

No tanning bed for me, but I don't stay out of the sun. I try really hard not to get too much sun.

The Dr. cut on my face and thought they got it all.
The Dr. tested what he removed, called me back in because he didn't get it all.
So, he deadened my cheek again and cut more out because skin cancer is like a tree and has roots.
He did that 10 times.

What started out as a pin size zit ended up being a hole the size of the silver dollar---my scar is smaller (more the size of a quarter) because of the way he added the patch, but I will always have it.

I am guilty  I tan...it's my 20 minutes of solitude. No one screaming MOMMY...no one bothers me...and I have a blood disorder that makes me VERY pale. It's an ego thing. I had a girl ask me a few years ago "Are you wearing white hose or are you really THAT PALE"...I answered "No, I have a blood disorder that makes me light...and thanks for noticing". Now I tan.
I have been in with new bulbs (TODAY) and am a little pinker and sensitive than normal. I usually go once a week.

I have a neighbor who was very fond of tanners when we were younger. She is my age and looks 20 years older. :o

I put 45 sunscreen whenever I am out in the sun. I come back from the tropics lighter than when I left :P :P Long sleeves, shade, cover-ups.

All I do is freckle and burn anyway. I use a lotion now and then that give you color.... :P

Tanning beds are worse- the bulbs only produce UVA rays, which penetrate the skin more, and are more prone to causing skin cancer (and wrinkles).

I used to tan, but not anymore. I mean, obviously, skin cancer is far more dangerous, but I also don't want to look like a leather bag at 30, either. I think seeing my mom's skin (she always tans before vacation, then spends weeks in the sun) was the bigger impetus for me to stop!

It was a pleasant day... in the 60's, with a cool breeze, but sunny. My husband compared me to John Candy in "Summer Rental", and the lady in "Something About Mary". I don't think my face has ever been so red, and I've had more than my share of sunburns!
I forgot... this was Sunday, after it faded a bit... :o Friday, my face was probably similar tone as my daughter's.

People - listen to SP and think and coverup. I never had skin cancer but did do the tanning bed thing in high school. BIG MISTAKA. I am convinced that the tanning bed experience is a direct cause of current sensitivity to sun. SPF 45 doesn't even help - but hats, special sun protection clothes (e.g. coolibar.com) do.

Ok - I stepped down from the soap box and wont lecture anymore. Be smart about the sun!
