Are You Ready for Jimmy's Brand Beer?

Post by Big Guy in Big D »

From Wikipedia......

How many items in these paragraphs do you find really INTERESTING?

"Buffett co-owns the "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger In Paradise" restaurants (the latter of which is a part of the Outback Steakhouse family of restaurants). He loves baseball and is part-owner of two minor league teams: the Fort Myers Miracle and the Madison Black Wolf. Between his restaurants, album sales, and tours, he makes an estimated 60-70 million dollars a year.

In 2006, Buffett plans a cooperative project allegedly with Anheuser-Busch to produce his own beer called Lone Palm. Lone Palm was also the title of a song from his 1994 album Fruitcakes. The label of the beer bottle will most likely feature a Pirate's map. The seaplane airport at the Orlando Margaritaville restaurant is also called Lone Palm."

Wonder where it would be distributed?

Lone Palm is already sold in Margaritaville Cafes, and has also won an award as well. Go here and look at the right hand side of the page. 2nd place for tasters choice: http://www.orlandobeerfestival.com/ontap.html

Whether this will be distributed throughout the US remains to be seen, but if it will take as long as the albums and DVD's do, maybe I can buy it before I'm 50.

If Mailboat records aren't involved, maybe it will actually happen! :):)

It's not bad, but CBiP's Island Ale, contract-brewed by Leinie's (ok.. Miller) is better. Could be my preference for Chippewa Falls' best product tho. :)

Lone Palm is an OK beer, but I prefer the Island Ale, like RR said. And I can get the Island around here.

Dunno about distribution, but that's an interesting coincidence. I posted an article in another couple of groups (Buffettlist and AFJB, both at www.YahooGroups.com) about something that I ran across in my Mexican readings and was confirmed by some articles in the Texas business press.

Grupo Modelo (read: "Corona") is in the planning stages of building what they claim will be the world's largest brewery. The plant will be in the border industrial zone about 15 miles south of Del Rio, Texas. The article that I saw claimed that the plant would be able to brew the equivalent of 200 railroad tank cars of beer a day, but we were kicking the numbers around and decided that must be Grupo Modelo's entire projected annual production in about 5 years, which would perhaps put this plant's production at somewhere around 60 tank cars per day. Which is still a helluva lot of brew.

When you realize that Grupo Modelo is half owned by Anheiser Busch the parts start to fall into place since they can switch their production over to any Modelo or Busch product and distribute north or south of the border easily.

Incidentally, while plain old Modelo is popular in Mexico Corona isn't particularly popular and Corona Light isn't even sold south of the border.

I can't believe how expensive Corona is. They really have mastered selling the fantasy behind the beer, and not the beer.

The Wikipedia entry for Grupo Modelo has something that you seldom see -- a dispute flag. The comments made for interesting reading.

A Mexican gent made this comment: "We have a local joke that says: Corona, the top sales world beer... but, not in México regarding to the slogan of the beer, there are far more popular beers."

They may laugh, but I was motorcycling along the truck route between Monterrey, Victoria, and Tampico (yes, working on my own little Tampico Trauma  ) earlier this year and the OXXO stores (convenience stores) do carry Corona. Someone drinks it, and not just the tourists.

Personally, I won't hardly touch the stuff unless you put a ton of lime and salt in it (another one of those disputed "traditions") or unless someone else was buying. After all, we must be practical.

Negra Modelo, on the other hand, I'd kill for on a thirsty day and that's a Grupo Modelo product as well.

Just good old Modelo beer (I guess that's technically Modelo Especial) seems to sell really well Down South. Personally, that's another beer that I'd barely allow to pass through my kidneys (way too weak, like Corona, but that's just my opinion) but when I used to hang at a really grungy working class Mexican bar here in Jacksonville (long story - a friend owned the building) Modelo Especial was all they served.

Beer tastes are very regional in Mexico. Tecate rules in Sonora (state on the northwestern side of mainland Mexico and near the town of, duhhhhh ... Tecate). Not really sure what rules in Tamaulipas on the other side of the country but if someone said Modelo I'd believe them.

With so many good beers in Mexico why drink Corona? Or Modelo? Or Miller Lite, which I was seeing every so often on my last trip.

any beer you need 2 lbs. of lime to kill the burning tire taste... is probably not the beer you want to drink unless you are already so wasted a pound of dog poop, grilled, on a bun would sound good.

as for Negra Modelo... ooooooooohhhhhhyeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhh. Nothing like getting off the plane in Mouseville to a gorgeous redhead, a warm Cuban sammich, and a cold Negra Modelo. :D

Is she holding the sandwich and the beer when you get off the plane?

You *MUST* share the name of that cafe!

I cannot think of anything that would be any better, unless of course she was also picking up the tab.

Just promise me that you aren't picking up your date at this place, which is fairly close to Orlando:
