We (myself & 17 other family, friends & neighbors) were there. We got to the parking lot about 11:30 with the motorhome. We had a great parking spot ... in a grassy area with other RV's ... not really crowded in like most years. We got everything set up ... I was still putting up decorations ... a brief rain shower came up. We had a tarp to put over the free standing shade awning, quickly pulled it over & pulled everything under cover. It was over as quick as it started. The drinks, food & fun flowed freely. We had a great afternoon of tailgating!
We had almost finished putting everything away in the RV to lock up & head to the Amphitheater gate when the fierce thunderstorm struck. We waited it out. We were not too keen on standing on the lawn in a lighting storm since our neighbor's tree and house had been struck by lighting a week before. The tree exloded, bark was lodged in our front door, which was across the street! Every electrical device or anything attached to a phone line was fried in every house in our neighborhood. So, we were understandably skittish.
When the lightning finally quit ... it was still raining, we headed for the gate. I think it was about 8:15 by the time we made our way through the swamped muddy parking lots and got our place in line with all the other cattle. We stood in line for at least 30- 45 minutes, causing us to miss the first hour of the show. I did not know what the hold up was. We were all hoping that they would just open the gates or at least suspend the checking of bags given the circumstances.
When we finally got to the lawn, it was a muddy quagmire. Dancing was only possible from the waste up, since feet were firmly stuck in the mud. There were quite a few idiots (mostly young & overserved) that had to fight & wrestle in the mud causing a hazard for anyone standing nearby. Why the security guards could not do something about this is beyond me.
The show (what we saw of it) was great as always! I thought it was considerate of Jimmy to forego the intermission. Even with the rain & mud it was a blast!
One moment made the whole day (and all the preparatory work the week prior) worth it. As we are standing in the rain, Jimmy comes out for the second encore & introduces Pirate. I turn to one of our group & lament that our sparklers won't lite in the rain. He says "pull out a couple & let's try". They lit ... we pulled out more ... got the "Sparklers on the Lawn" shout out from Jimmy, lit and passed out more and more, got cheers all over the lawn. Our string of shout outs in ATL is unbroken ... I went away a very wet, very muddy, but very HAPPY Parrothead!!!
By the way, as I am holding the last two sparklers, two security guards come up & tell me to put them out. I through them into a mud puddle & they went out immediately. They worry about sparklers in the rain, but not drunks pushing each other into people in the mud ... go figure!
I'm sorry that I did not get out to meet other BNer's that were in the parking lot ... I was tied up with my own hostest duties. Hopefully I will get to meet some of you in the near future.
Fin's UP!!! Thanks Jimmy for a great day, weather & all!!!

This was my first trip to Atlanta and it will not be my last!!!!! I had a great time! I got to hang with some great BN people!!! You all know who you are!!!! The lightning stopped and it was raining when I went into the concert. It is the chance you take at a rain or shine venue!!!! I had my poncho and a baseball hat and a good enough buzz that I didn't care!!!! Jimmy and the Coral Reefers were great as always and I can't wait for my next concert!!!!!
