Need Help Identifying a Song
Moderator: SMLCHNG
Does it go anything like this one? I had this one stuck in my mind for a few weeks.
All Over But the Crying
by Bruce Robison on his last CD Eleven Stories
"The lights go down,
The charge is done,
The battle is over and the upside won,
And it don't help to know that it ain't a matter of trying
I hold you close one last time,
The cost of love might be my mind,
It hurts like hell
When you're living in a love thats dying...
And you know that it's all over but the crying"

Still no matches - but thanks to everyone who has offered up possibilities thus far. Please keep 'em coming if you think of any that might fit the bill.
The closest (in terms of sound) that I've come across so far might be Lifehouse, but it's also not far off from James Blunt and Keane (although the singer has a deeper, more "normal" voice).

Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after
Every now and then...
But me, I just want to live happily ever after
Every now and then...

Keith Anderson, Every Time I Hear Your Name .....?
Fin'lly got over that song of ours; stopped chasin' little red sports cars,
To check the license plates an' back wood drivin' by your place.
Back makin' the rounds at our old haunts... Honky Tonks, restaurants.
An' seein' some of our old friends... it feels good to dance again.
An' I can fin'lly smell your perfume an' not look around the room for you.
An' I can walk right by your picture in a frame an' not feel a thing.
But when I hear your name,
I feel rain fallin' right out of the blue sky.
An' it's the fifth of May, an' I'm right there starin' in your eyes.
An' nothin's changed, an' we're still same.
An' I get lost in the innocence of a first kiss,
An' I'm hangin' on to every word rollin' off of your lips...
An' that's all it takes, an' I'm in that place,
Every time I hear your name.
Got someone special in my life... everyone thinks she'd make a great wife.
Dad says he thinks she's the one... reminds him of Mom when she was young,
But it's way too soon to be talkin 'bout rings; don't wanna rush into anything.
She's getting over someone too, kinda like me an' you.
An' she talks about him every once in a while, an' I just nod my head an' smile,
'Cause I know exactly what she's goin' through... yeah, I've been there too.
An' when the conversation turns to you,
I get caught in a "you were the only one for me",
Kinda thought, an' your face is all that I see.
I know I can't go back when I still go back.
An' there we are, a point down by the riverside,
An' I'm in your arms about to make love for the first time,
An' that's all it takes, an' I'm in that place,
Every time I hear your name.
So I'm thinkin' 'bout the words I left unsaid.
(Every time I hear your name.)
Stop tryin' the change the things I can't change.
(Every time I hear your name.)
In my heart I know you're gone, but in my head,
I feel rain fallin' right out of the blue sky.
An' it's the fifth of May, an' I'm right there starin' in your eyes.
That's all it takes, an' I'm in that place.
An' there we are, a point down by the riverside,
An' I'm in your arms about to make love for the first time.
An' I can't explain, but I'm in that place,
Every time I hear your name.
Every time I hear your name.
(Every time I hear your name.)
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh.
(Every time I hear your name.)
Ah ah.
Every time I hear your name.

Or Blake Shelton, Goodbye Time .....?
It's your life - you say you need a change
Don't all the dreams we've seen come true mean anything
You say it's different now and you keep staring at the door
How can you walk away don't I matter anymore
If being free's worth what you leave behind
And if it's too late for love to change your mind
Then it's goodbye time
If we had known our love would come to this
We could have saved our hearts the hurt of wasted years
Well it's been fun - what else can I say
If the feeling's gone words won't stop you anyway
If being free's worth what you leave behind
And if it's too late for love to change your mind
Then it's goodbye time
It's your life - you say you need a change
Don't all the dreams we've seen come true mean anything
You say it's different now and you keep staring at the door
How can you walk away don't I matter anymore

It may take a while, but eventually you will get an answer. years ago, I kept hearing a song and could not remember what movie it was from. It was an instrumental, and before all the computer web search possibilities. It drove me nuts for a couple of years, and then one day I was in Nordstroms and the pianist was playing it---I ran down the escalator and practically attacked the guy trying to learn what movie the song was from. After teasing me for a while, he did tell me that it was from Terms of Endearment. But it took many weeks of wondering.

Maybe?
Rascal Flatts
What Hurts The Most
I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don’t bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out
I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend I’m ok
But that’s not what gets me
What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was tryin’ to do
It’s hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But I’m doin’ It
It’s hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I’m alone
Still Harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin’ with this regret
But I know if I could do it over
I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart
That I left unspoken
What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do
What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say

was it Daniel Powter, "Bad day"
Where is the moment we needed the most
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
They tell me your blue skies fade to grey
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carryin' on
You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee to go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces everytime
And I don't need no carryin' on
Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day
Well you need a blue sky holiday
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carryin' on
You had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
(Oh.. Holiday..)
Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be well oh that strong
And I'm not wrong
So where is the passion when you need it the most
Oh you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost
Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
You've seen what you like
And how does it feel for one more time
You had a bad day
You had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day
Had a bad day

Just heard for the 1st time, and seemed to fit:Demerara wrote:I'm hoping BNers' vast musical knowlege will help me identify a song I heard the other day. I was in the grocery store (where I've heard Jimmy being played a few times) and heard a song that sounded familiar but I couldn't place it. Here's what I know (and don't know) about it:
- male singer (country of origin unknown)
- possibly a group, as opposed to singer-songwriter
- sounded new, within the last couple of years
- sounded like a ballad but chorus was a bit more up-tempo
- the singer was singing to a girl/woman he was no longer involved with (the tone of the lyrics suggests the breakup wasn't his choice); he was regretful but not whiny
- I can't recall specific lyrics but they had something to do with having to remember they weren't together anymore when they were out or at a party or whatever, that they were no longer a couple, that he was going to have to learn not call her, etc.
I know it's a longshot but I thought I'd try. I asked my kids (who tend to know more about modern music than I) but they weren't familiar with it. It wasn't a teenybopper song, and it would probably be a top 40 hit.
I'm sure I've heard the song before, and I'd like to track it down if I can. Can any BNers out there help?
Nick Lachey? "What's Left of Me"?
(verse 1)
Watch my life pass me by -- in the rearview mirror
Pictures frozen in time -- are becoming clearer
I don't wanna waste another day -- stuck in the shadow of my mistakes -- yeah
(Chorus)
Cause I want you -- and I feel you -- crawling underneath my skin
Like a hunger, like a burnin -- to find a place I've never been
Now I'm broken, and I'm faded -- I'm half the man I thought I would be
But you can have -- what's left of me.
(Verse 2)
I've been dying inside -- little by little
Nowhere to go -- I'm goin outta my mind
An endless circle -- runnin from myself until
You gave me a reason for standing still
(Chorus)
And I want you -- and I feel you -- crawling underneath my skin
Like a hunger, like a burnin -- to find a place I've never been
Now I'm broken, and I'm faded -- I'm half the man I thought I would be
But you can have -- what's left of me.
(Hook)
Fallin' faster -- barely breathing
Give me somethin to believe in
Tell me it's not all in my head
*pause*
Take what's left of this man
Make me whole once again
(Chorus)
Cause I want you -- and I feel you -- crawling underneath my skin
A hunger, like a burnin -- to find a place I've never been
Now I'm broken, and I'm faded -- I'm half the man I thought I would be
You can have, all that's left, (yeah, yeah, yeah) what's left of me
(Outro)
I've been dying inside you see
I'm goin outta my mind (outta my mind, outta my mind, outta my mind)
I'm just runnin' in circles all the time
Will you take what's left? x3 -- of me
I'm just runnin' in circles in my mind
Will you take what's left? x3 -- of me
Take what's left of me
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

My suggestion is go back to the store and hang there til you hear the song again and when you do, boom hit it up with this and all your questions will be answered.
