Need Help Identifying a Song

I'm hoping BNers' vast musical knowlege will help me identify a song I heard the other day. I was in the grocery store (where I've heard Jimmy being played a few times) and heard a song that sounded familiar but I couldn't place it. Here's what I know (and don't know) about it:
- male singer (country of origin unknown)
- possibly a group, as opposed to singer-songwriter
- sounded new, within the last couple of years
- sounded like a ballad but chorus was a bit more up-tempo
- the singer was singing to a girl/woman he was no longer involved with (the tone of the lyrics suggests the breakup wasn't his choice); he was regretful but not whiny
- I can't recall specific lyrics but they had something to do with having to remember they weren't together anymore when they were out or at a party or whatever, that they were no longer a couple, that he was going to have to learn not call her, etc.
I know it's a longshot but I thought I'd try. I asked my kids (who tend to know more about modern music than I) but they weren't familiar with it. It wasn't a teenybopper song, and it would probably be a top 40 hit.
I'm sure I've heard the song before, and I'd like to track it down if I can. Can any BNers out there help?

It's not "Friends in Low Places" by Garth Brooks, is it?
Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one
You thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said, honey, we may be through
But you'll never hear me complain
'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places
Well, I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
Everything's all right
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey, I didn't mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well, I'll be as high
As that ivory tower
That you're livin' in
'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places
3rd Verse:
I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
And everything is alright
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
I didn't mean to cause a big scene
Just wait 'til I finish this glass
Then sweet little lady
I'll head back to the bar
And you can kiss my ass

I thought of Friends In Low Places as well although it is over 15 years old and everybody and their grandma should know that one.

Nope, not a country song. Mainstream/modern rock, I reckon.

I don't think so, but it's probably in the same vein.

Ok, shot in the dark here. Is it You're Beautiful by James Blunt? If so, I love this song! Although I never knew until now that he drops an F-bomb in it!
James Blunt - You're Beautiful
My life is
brilliant.
My life is brilliant
My love is
pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She
smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause
I've got a plan.
You're beautiful.
You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's
true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I
don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be
with you.
Yes, she caught my eye,
As we walked
on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
f****
high,
And I don't think that I'll see her
again,
But we shared a moment that will last 'till the
end.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in
a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
La la la
la la la la la la
You're beautiful. You're
beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she
thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to
face the truth,
I will never be with you.

That Blunt guy was on the Today Show last week. I had never heard the song before and if I had my choice between hearing it again and having a wooden stake driven through my eardrums, I'd have to stop and think. He was awful.

What about Nick Lachey? His new stuff is all about the big "Nick/Jessica" breakup.

Try hypnosis?
Or go to the local diner and spend all your quarters on the jukebox?

Not Blunt, not Lachey, not Chesney. And I can't recall enough of the tune to try songtapper.
I'm doomed... this will haunt me forever, I just know it! (And it's not even a great song! Good enough that I'd like to hear it again and give it a proper listen, but not a "classic" - to my ears, anyway.)

Old song . . . by Blue Rodeo, but it came to mind. I love it.
Bad Timing
Hey it's me what a big surprise
Calling you up from a restaurant
Around the bend
Just got in from way up North
I'm aching tired now
And I could use a friend
Might be a fool
To think that you do
Want to see me again
I know it's been awhile since I talked to you
Nothing wrong
Just nothing ever goes as planned
Many times I thought I'd call
Didn't have your number in my hand
I know it's true
You'd never do
The same thing to me
I never meant to make you cry
And though I know I shouldn't call
It just reminds us of the cost
Of everything we've lost
Bad timing that's all
And maybe soon there'll come a day
When no more tears will fall
We each forgive a little bit
And we both look back on it
As just bad timing that's all
Used to have so many plans
Something always seemed to turn out wrong
Never could catch up to you
Moving on and doing all you've done
I don't know why
The harder I try
The harder it comes
I never meant to make you cry
And though I know I shouldn't call
It just reminds us of the cost
Of everything we've lost
Bad timing that's all
And maybe soon there'll come a day
When no more tears will fall
We each forgive a little bit
And we both look back on it
Just bad timing that's all
We each forgive a little bit
And we both look back on it
Just bad timing that's all

Maybe you can try and contact the store and ask them to see what songs they have on their 'muzac'.

try joe purdy...aqualung...keane....
barefoot has a song called rain...
I see you, running
But I don't know my way
I'm so afraid to tell you all I need to say
The heavens are falling, and I can't get away
I'm so ashamed for leaving and letting go of faith
(Chorus)
I see rain living without you, oh
It's not the same living without you, again
I feel pain living without you, here
I see rain
I came here, believing that I had much to give
But all I had was illusions
Where do I begin?
I found as I tried to understand your words
There's nothing you should cling to, if your heart's not in your hand
(Chorus)
I see rain living without you, yeah
It's not the same living without you, again
I feel pain living without you, here
I see rain
Facing honest questions, slowly turning me around
Building up what's broken down
I see rain living without you
I see pain living without you
I see rain living without you
And I see pain living without you here
Oh, oh
I see rain
Oh, living without you
