So why does it tick you off? It was your choice not to bring one in  There were also signs in the parking lot saying "No Alcohol" - what's your point?

Why did Buffett not allow us to bring in water. Why should we pay $3.50 for a cup of water in VWA.

Really? Buffett was at the gate taking your water away? Give us all a break

We went to Buffett last year in the Colliseum and tickets were $45.00 with an $8.50 ticketmaster charge. This year they were $129.00 with a $14.50 ticketmaster charge. Beer WAS $3.00 at the colliseum, at VWA they were $5.00 to $7.50. This is financial piracy! :pirate:

So don't pay it. I don't recall anyone forcing anybody to pay up and go. It's supply and demand dude

Don't believe I will ever see a Buffett show again or go to VWA again. Not at these prices.

Suit yourself, it'll open up an opportunity for someone else who wants to be there

I am just a parrothead in training. She said that if he was going to treat his fans like that, she was done with his concert and music. She was really ticked off about the whole thing.

:-? No response to that...

Also the local news channed said the show was supposed to run until 11:30, but it ended at 10:30. Any comments about that one.

Reggie
Reggie, here's the song totals so far this year for all full-length concerts:
Phoenix - 26
Irvine #1 - 26
Irvine #2 - 25 (in the rain, no breaks in between encores)
Mountainview - 26
Dallas - 26 (in the rain)
Atlanta - 25 (in the rain, played straight thru, no intermission)

Charlotte - 29 songs, in the rain, played straight thru, no intermission!
He not only didn't cut it short, we got at least 3 more songs than ANY other concert so far this tour - rain or no rain. Let's stick with facts here

Others are correct that "no bottles" is a Jimmy rule. Any venue I've been to and asked that question I've been told that Buffett's shows are the only ones where they have to pour the water out of the bottle and into a cup. It sounds as though the venue didn't want to provide free cups. So if you combine the two you get the "pour it out or drink it" result.

As far as profitability goes, the recent top earning performers thread reconfirmed that artists get 85-90% of the gate. The venue makes the majority of their money from concessions, parking, etc.

And with the show timing, most venues have an 11 pm curfew, so it's scheduled for a 3-hour block of time. No intermission was taken because of the rain, so you got a somewhat condensed but very nice show.

Not good ....

Reading all these negative JB posts, I can't help but think he knows he's ticking off his fan base during this "pad my pocketbook before I officially retire" tour . . . or does he really care at this point?

I know firsthand that Mr Buffett controls EVERYTHING that happens at his concerts. Whether that is right or wrong is your call but he is in charge.

No one is excempt. Even the Corona reps in Atlanta were forced at the last minute to cancel the band they had hired for their VIP tent because they hadn't cleared it with the Buffett management team.

I have no problem with that, he's the boss. And I believe he takes whatever steps he can to ensure that a great time is had by as many people as possible. But as we all know, there's always someone that can come with something to b**** about no matter how great an event ACTUALLY is.

geez louise!!!

If its in buffetts contract that there are to be no water bottles allowed in, then there arnt any, bottom line. were you the only disappointed or upset person i would think not but what is your recourse?

If you were unhappy with the water deal, the prices, the staff (and why bust on that guy when its not his rule) then dont go. Now you kow better and understand that maybe its not a place for you.

Is the venue there to make cash, YES. Does the venue have expenses also, YES

Is jimmy playing to make cash, YES, regardless if you feel he needs it or not. Does jimmy have expenses as well, YES

Any one of us can do a estimation of how much a venue or performer makes but its insane to think that it all just goes into the pocket. Its the same as you paying your mortgage and utilities and food and funmoney for your house.

No one makes you go to any event free or not.

People are always complaining "why doesn't Jimmy play (fill in the blank) anymore?" After seeing how incompetent the staff was at the Atlanta venue last week, maybe that's why he skips some places. Yes, the weather was bad and bad weather always causes problems but they had no Plan B to deal with it. Don't be surprised if there's no Atlanta show next year. If there is a next year.

I was at both Irvine shows in April and took a couple cans of beer in with me. I had the can in a koozie. About a half an inch was sticking out the top of it. An usher came by and told me that if Jimmy seen that he would stop the show. Now I don't know what the chances of a 60y/o man spotting the top of a Bud Light can in a sea of thousands of people, in the dark are, but I sure wasn't too concerned with it. Actually, I would have been quite proud that Jimmy would have acknowledged that I was at his show.

Buffett's management team isn't necessarily Mr Buffett. I'm sure they act on knowing his interests, but probably make decisions on some things without his direct input as well.

I'm sure that Jimmy does control the aspects of the band's personal safety. As far as setting the prices for the concessions, I doubt if he has anything to do with that. It seems that some of the venues are taking advantage of one of his "rules" to milk a little more money out of the concert goer. They are no different than any other business in the country today wherein they pay many people to think up more ways to separate you from your money. Paying to use an ATM is just one of these "scams". You cannot blame Jimmy for wanting to protect his talent on stage and the fans in the audience.

Unfortunately many people take no personal responsibility today. Lawyers are getting rich collecting fees from clients who feel they have been wronged when, in reality, the client is just plan stupid. Stupid people have no boundries so they go to shows and perform ignorant acts, generally to impress their friends seated around them. Why would anyone pay for a ticket to a show only to throw projectiles at the performers? Where is the logic to that? A little self-policing would go a long way to reducing or eliminating this sort of behavior. Every venue I have ever gone to has security personnel. Simply point the jerk out to them after they chuck something like a bottle at the stage and get them removed.

As much as many people do not want to hear it, too much alcohol is the other problem that makes too many people act like a**holes. Responsible parrotheads have become the "victims" of the overindulgent crowd who simply go to get totally wasted, scream at the top of their lungs, ignore every song except "Margaritaville" (cuz that is the only Buffett song that they know) and brag the next day that they partied at a Jimmy Buffett concert. But there is hope on the horizon and it is in the form of the present day ticket prices. As of this writing, there are still pavilion tickets available through Ticketmaster at Alpine Valley for Saturday night. Last year at Wrigley Field you could get tickets on Sunday for the Monday show. This indicates to me that some would-be fans are finding that they can get blitzed on a Saturday night at the local bar without spending $141.75 for a "cover charge" at a big outdoor theater. The prices are thinning the crowd of the undesirables. This will be all the better for those of us who are tired of paying the price for everyone else's irresponsibility.

This is my 25th year of seeing Jimmy live and I have had a few unpleasant experiences but certainly not anything that would keep me for continuing to see him. None of the bad incidents had anything to do with issues controlled by Jimmy or the band. The good memories and the wonderful music keep me coming back just like 95% of the dedicated parrotheads who go to enjoy the show and the escape from their worries and problems. The other alternative is to sit home and listen on RM where you CAN control all aspects of your evening. You are free to make your own decision.....

Yes, it is Jimmy's rule. At shows at Alpine Valley, they sell beer in plastic bottles and for most concerts, they give you the bottle - for Jimmy's shows, they have to pour the beer into plastic cups.

We were told to drink our water or throw it away. I told him that the web site said that water was allowed. He told me it was a spur of the moment decision and that Buffett didn't allow bottled water. Someone, and I believe it was VWA had dollar signs in their greedy little eyes.
Nope, it is Jimmy's rule

I couldn't wait to hear margaritaville in Irvine... I could almost imagine Jimmy singing this...

Cut my heel
Had to cruise on back home
But there's BoozeInTheBlender
The guy sitting 50 rows back but,
because he brought a beer in here
I'm stopping the show... the show.. the show... the show...
