Ever Been Banned?
Have you ever been banned from a casino for winning too much? I find it quite funny how the casinos label the strategy of card counting as cheating.
Simply knowing what cards have been played and which ones are left and having an idea about the odds of a particular card being dealt seems like good card playing to me.
But I guess the casinos make the rules so they can call it whatever they want.

Re: Ever Been Banned?
Technically, the casinos don't need a reason to ask you to leave to begin with. It's posted in plain view everywhere. If they even think that you are remotely cheating in any way, you are escorted rather unceremoniously out.
Card counting isn't illegal, and they allow it as long as there are no outside influences or aids, but if you're winning every hand due to card counting and they suspect that, they will ask you kindly to leave. I've seen this several times, especially in some of the smaller casinos.

Read "Bringing Down the House" and 'Busting Vegas" two non-fiction books by Ben Mezrich which is about Card counting teams at MIT in the 1990's who won millions. Mezrich's admits he fictionalized parts of each book but they are still two very good books. Bringing Down the House is being made into a movie, Kevin Spacey will produce and play a role in the movie. The title of the move will be 21 .
In New Jersey they passed a law several years ago that says Casino's there (Atlantic City) can not throw you out for counting cards. Ken Uston was tossed from several casino's in AC and went to court challenging the rule and won. Now if they suspect you of counting in AC they make it real tough for you to play, shuffling half way though a shoe, not allowing mid-shoe entry, lowering table limits etc...

um i wish. that would suggest that I win sometimes.
I understand that casinos can ban you but I think it's funny that if you win too much they can ask you to leave. I would guess if you do this for a living you know just how far you can push your luck and then move on to another place. I'm amazed that casinos are able to spot somebody they don't want there. I can't imagine remembering a face and then spotting them in a crowd.

I think I saw a documentary on this (NOVA?) a few years back. I was fascinated by it. I'll have to find those books. Thanks.BottleofRum wrote:Read "Bringing Down the House" and 'Busting Vegas" two non-fiction books by Ben Mezrich which is about Card counting teams at MIT in the 1990's who won millions. Some of them have an electronic matching system to match faces with those in a crowd. Some of them have a system like the post office where they're posted.OceanCityGirl wrote:um i wish. that would suggest that I win sometimes.

Enough people asked to not return just leave a memorable impression.

Bringing Down the House was a NY Times best seller for several months.flyboy55 wrote:I think I saw a documentary on this (NOVA?) a few years back. I was fascinated by it. Yeah it's a good book. Spike TV did a documentary on it too. It may not have been Spike TV but it was on one of the cable networks. Hey BOR, good to see you in another thread for once. Maybe we can agree on something in this thread....BottleofRum wrote:Bringing Down the House was a NY Times best seller for several months.flyboy55 wrote:I think I saw a documentary on this (NOVA?) a few years back. Techincally it ISN'T illegal to count cards. When you count cards, you are eliminating the advantage that the house has in the card games and they don't like it.flyboy55 wrote:Have you ever been banned from a casino for winning too much? If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

People rarely get kicked out of casinos for winning too much. Yes the case where they suspect someone of "card counting" has been documented, but that is rare.
People get kicked out for trying to cheat, which happens more than you would think and they claim they were just winning. With all the cameras, believe me, they know if you were cheating.
