This statement is waaaay too generalized for me... of course, no one knows what a "true parrothead" even is, but there are probably as many on the lawn as there are in the pavilion. The added $$ just puts you in seats... if you're lucky, they are seats next to cool and friendly people, but that isn't always the case either. But the same could be said for the lawn as well... I've been by the annoying ones a time or two, but fortunately I've been by cool and friendly ones on the lawn as well.
we ended up with seats down in the Pavillion, a surprise for the weekend. :) Behind us, were two guys who did not get it, and a couple who lived in Mukwanago and had never been to Alpine (they bailed at half-time). In front of us were a group of 4 who were somewhere between basic cheeseheads, and fans, pretty decent. Next to me was a guy who had come down from Fond du Lac with his sister, and he can't wait for next year. Next to Candy were a couple girls whose biggest concern was whether they could get out of the parking lot...

The beachball stuff wasn't bad, tho there were a couple witless f$%#s who thought spiking/power-serving them was "cool"... Guys using the fenceline/treeline, sure. Girls dropping everything and going without any realization of there were folks walking by... saw that a couple times. (of course, saw that outside the venue too... if you are wearing a skirt that comes to about 2" below the top of your thighs, you should realize that sitting is going to cause it to ride up...)

It wasn't nearly as bad as last time, when I watched 6 drunken fratrats punching passenger-side mirrors on cars and trying to break them off on the way out of the lot.

Yeah, The frat @ssholes next that parked next to us stopped me and grabbed a hold of some of my beads and said, "Either you give me these beads or I break them" WTF is up with that?!?! That's not cool. I gave him the beads because I wasn't wanting a confontation.

Even when I was in my early 20's (Which wasn't that long ago, being that I am only 27 now) I would NEVER think of acting like this ANYWHERE. These people don't deserve to be at a Buffett Concert, much less be a Graduate from any university.

Anywho, I had a great time! Music was good, coronas were cold, and most people that I ran into were generally phriendly.

wow, how insane! i was lucky as to not run into any a$$es like that. i have always said one of the many things i love about buffett concerts is that everybody is always so friendly. i guess that isn't really the case afterall.

We sat in the Pavillion in Dallas and our daughter was in the lawn with friends and we both had good experiences.

We've had problems and joys in both places before

We did have to tell one guy to stop grabbing me in the Pavillion this year, but he complied and all was good after that.

I've always been of the opinion that it's in the way you approach the people who are being obnoxious that determines the result you will get - even when they are three sheets to the wind. I haven't been disappointed yet.

USUALLY if you approach a drunk with humor and fun, they will respond in kind - but approach a drunk with a demand and s/he will be hostile in return.

A little patience really pays off.

Yeah, I agree. Most of the time though, not always. There are some out there that still suprise me.

Evidently the frat-rat had not heard the "approach a drunk with a humourous request..." thing. :)

I went to a concert recently with my teenager....it was an alternative/punk concert.....which conjures up images of all sorts of bad behavior....but I have to say, I didn't see any puking, peeing, fighting or anything.....the kids in the mosh pit were moshing and banging pretty good....but outside of that, everyone was amazingly well behaved.

I enjoy a good party, hell, I enjoy a good drunk.....but know your limitations, especially in public.....I am a sympathetic puker, so there is nothing I hate worse than a puking drunk....

I was fortunate enough to be able to tailgate with most of the people that responded in the DRUNK IN CINCI thread. None of them were fall down or obnoxious drunk. Some were even sober! We also had plenty of food! And, most of all, we had a good time, met old friends and made a few new ones. Unless you joined our tailgate, keep your stones to use on someone else.

Now, for the jello shot comment.....So, if you have a jello shot, you become a drunk? I don't get it!

I thought it was just me seeing a decline in the "phun". Only having gone to 13 concerts in 14 years, I have noticed a difference. When I first "discovered" Buffett back in the early 90's, nobody I knew really heard of him. After seeing my first concert I thought, WOW, this is soo cool - nobody fighting, getting out of control, everybody getting along. I'm not saying it was some weird love fest, but it was just comfortable; no problems. I don't think it was till "5'Oclock" came out then the "other people" started to say, yeah I know who JB is! Then they started to go to his concerts thinking this is were we can get drunk and puck on people and start fights, etc. I'm not saying I'm against new people going to experience the concert, but the last two concerts I've brought my mom with me. I can't tell you know how embarrassed I am by the behavior of those few. I love to people watch - seeing the guys in grass skirts, all the costumes, but to turn around and see these a$$holes start fights is really uncomfortable.

I was a virgin last year at GW and was pleasantly surprised at how great the crowd was. Granted I had a pav seat but even some of my friends on the lawn had no complaints. That was a Wednesday night though and I'm kind of worried that a Saturday concert like we're doing this year will bring out more of the "party til you puke" crowd.

We're bringing two virgins this year and everyone will be inside but them and one other couple, I hope it's not too insane, I want them to enjoy it , they've been fans for a long time, just never seen him live. Here's hoping

The jello shots are to share with 400 or 500 of my best phriends. There is a huge difference between drunk and falling down stupid drunk. I had one of the jerks land in my lap at Alpine, and he wasn't even cute

Seriously, we were surrounded by drunk sorority girls who talked very loudly throughout the show. I don't think that they even knew SYNBH.

The Capt & I talked about whether or not we are too damn old to be in the lawn anymore. I don't want to give up Buffett, but something needs to change.

This doesn't really count as "out of control," but seated two rows directly behind me was Kirk Hinrich (Chicago Bulls guard), and people were CONSTANTLY hounding him for an autograph while he was trying to enjoy the concert. They weren't really obnoxious, but VERY persistant.
Somebody finally got a couple of the security people to come by and keep everyone else away.

The things some people have to do to enjoy a concert. :x
