I was fortunate enough to be able to tailgate with most of the people that responded in the DRUNK IN CINCI thread. None of them were fall down or obnoxious drunk. Some were even sober! We also had plenty of food! And, most of all, we had a good time, met old friends and made a few new ones. Unless you joined our tailgate, keep your stones to use on someone else.

Now, for the jello shot comment.....So, if you have a jello shot, you become a drunk? I don't get it!
SOS, no stones were thrown at anyone, the example I used was used to show that the attitude is more about drinking and less about the Artist and the Music. Hopefully , I thought people would understand that, I guess you didn't.

As for the Jello shots, I assume they have alcohol in them and I assume they are a way of drinking, so what is your POINT! ? :-? :-? It isn't enough that you have a drink , you have to have Jello shots , too! No I Guess you don't GET IT!

The jello shots are to share with 400 or 500 of my best phriends. There is a huge difference between drunk and falling down stupid drunk. I had one of the jerks land in my lap at Alpine, and he wasn't even cute

Seriously, we were surrounded by drunk sorority girls who talked very loudly throughout the show. I don't think that they even knew SYNBH.

The Capt & I talked about whether or not we are too damn old to be in the lawn anymore. I don't want to give up Buffett, but something needs to change.
BHC come on in, Judy and I have been in the Pavilion for years. It not about being too old, gosh Jimmy is older! It just seems like people seem to feel it is a free for all and where ever the puke lands, so be it! :o :o We have all been young and stupid, but it seems to us that the concerts are more about getting drunk and acting stupid, then seeing the Man and hearing his music! Just MHO!

I guess I have to agree with 216 on a lot of this. I do enjoy the shows, but the crowd (or at least a small, but increasing percentage of the crowd) has become harder to deal with each year. I have not gone back to Alpine in years because of a bad experience there, and I do know people who love the music, but, because one of my friends is struggling with a 12 step program, that individual feels they can no longer go to concerts because it is such an alcohol-filled environment.

I have no problem with drinking or getting drunk, but when you are so stinking drunk that you are out of control, and ruining the experience for others, you have become a problem.

the only problem I've had is at a show where there were some people spiking beach balls into people's heads before the show. And they seemed to be soaked with beer, at least I hope it was beer.

I was in the middle of the lawn at Alpine (centerstage about halfway back) and I was totally impressed with the crowd. Sure there were some drunks; but there were plenty of people who knew all the words to songs that were written before they were born, and were just having a good time.

was at Alpine on Saturday, while still a fun time, I saw way too many people barfing and passed out, p*** on the lawn, etc.
One girl next to us was blowing chow in empty beer glasses.
Her friend was shuttling the glass to the trash can when she was blasted with a beach ball, needless to say the puke went flying all over people, it was a sad sight.
It is the last time I will go to a show with lawn seat tickets.
The added $$ puts you in the seats with true PH's and away from the Frat Rats from Chicago who think they are at a Cubs game.
I've been to many of the venues JB plays across the country and Alpine was by far the worst in terms of fights and other obnoxious behavior. I'll never go back there... maybe it's all that cheese and bratwurst (whatever the hell that is)

I think it was not enough bratwursts and cheese... I know I had a couple cheeseburgers, a couple brats, some great jambalaya and gumbo, and enough beer to wash them down.. and some water. I'd like to think I was well-behaved and stayed out of trouble. I did not meet any of Alpine's security crew.

saw some fights at Camden in 2003, the Camden parking lot is...HUGE!! view from the lot during the day is great, the river, Philly, the bridge....

the lawn was good, no one out of control where we were, just having a good time.

...the swill left in the parking lot after the show was about the most disgusting thing I've ever seen...

at Nissan a few days later, nothing at all like Camden..I think the lot was as large as Camden, but each tailgater took care of their own leftovers...

J'ville was a smaller lot, didn't even compare to the garbage left at Camden.

See, you are casting judgments. I drank water the whole day. However, if a jello shot had been available around me, I would have had one or two. That does not make me a drunk. If I had a drink or two and a jello shot, that still wouldn’t make me a drunk. There are people who can drink responsibly. Are you sure you want BHC to join you in the pavilion- she may have just had a jello shot and a drink!! :o ASSuming things isn’t always good. (I bet you have ASSumed I am young and stupid, too.)

No, I do get it. For some reason, you are bitter against alcohol, or not being able to drink it. That is no reason to cast your judgments on those who choose to consume. Not everyone who drinks in the parking lot is going to fall, puke or be a donkey.

If you have been a fan as long as you say, then you should know that it is not just the music we love, but the dream of the Caribbean carefree lifestyle JB represents. For some, the day of the concert is their only chance to escape from the “real” world and enjoy that lifestyle. Some just aren’t as responsible as others, but don’t group all of us drinkers into that category!

Alpine Valley is my favorite. If You plan ahead, it's very easy to park. With all concerts, there will always be overserved phans. In all of my shows, I have never drank too much. As Jimmy says " Pace yourselves" It's a long show, and a longer drive back.

Not trying to speak for 216, but my interpretation of the jello shot comment was not a criticism of those that do jello shots, but rather some concern for those whose priority is HOW MANY. It is the excess that is the issue, at least for me.

I think Alpine may have gotten to big and good for its own good. It is known as a great concert venue for Buffett, and, especially when Tinley did not allow tailgating, it was the place to go where anything goes. And now everyone flocks to Alpine for the music, the parking lot, the drinking, or whatever they choose to come for, and each of the last few years I have heard an increasing number of negative comments.

And yes, the positives still outweigh the negatives, but each year more and more pholks come out of Alpine with less than overwhelmingly positive impressions

Camden is a cess pool - both the city and the venue. I've never been more embarassed to be a Parrothead than I was while looking around the parking lot after the 2004 show there.

And on the top ten list of places you DO NOT want to get lost in after dark - tropically dressed and in a decorated car - Camden is the first nine.

I've been to 60 shows (according to my husband, I never counted) and without a doubt Cincy was the worst lawn ever. For one thing, it was too crowded. At Star Lake you can take a blanket and spread out a bit. Not here. No blankets. What really ticked me off is the staff was telling people that the no blanket rule was Buffett's request. What BS. He didn't say no blankets two nights before in Pittsburgh. Did he suddenly develop a blanket phobia? The reason was so they could pack more people on the lawn. I couldn't move, much less dance. I was surrounded by drunk frat rats, falling down, bumping into me, stepping on my feet, not paying a bit of attention to the show. Also, very poor sight lines. The pitch of the lawn is too shallow. Those stupid girders blocked the screens. What idiot designed that place?

There's always going to be some obnoxious behavior in any crowd like that but the ratio of Parrothead to Partyhead was decidedly heavy on the Partyhead side in Cincy. I'll never go back there. Star Lake and Nissan are much, much better.

unlike Alpine, where you have a natural feature (hillside used in the winter for skiing), Riverbend appears to be right on the river. There is probably a bit of a problem making said hillside steep enough for your "great sightlines" issue. Digging into the bank probably would create drainage issues, but that could just be me..

If that is what he meant and I misunderstood, I'm sorry. I took it as he didn't want anyone to drink or do shots.
