Thank God...

because..

Thanks to the Sweet and Lovely Cate...

I love beach music
I always have and I always will
60 minute man and walking up a one way street
He's up on the roof, he's under the boardwalk
Summer time is calling me

I learned to shag on the beach
With the salt in the air and the sand at my feet

I love beach music
I was born with it in my bones
I learned to shag on the beach with the salt in the air
And the sand at my feet
Every single day of my life...
I love beach music, that old square dancing music
Shagging kind of music like we did at the beach...

and that is all I have heard all morning...

Anyone mention Alan Parson's Project? I don't think I saw it mentioned or Bob Seeger and The Silver Bullet Band?

For the Meatloaf fans out there , did anyone see the documentary about him a couple or so ( maybe longer) years ago? It told/explained about his absence from the music scene. ( Or did you see him in the movie "Black Dog" with a couple other big names. One known for his acting, the other known for his singing? )

Hmmm, a lot of groups listed I don't think of as that "unusual"...mainly just what was popular at various stages of our lives. If we liked it then, why wouldn't we like most of it now? I grew up in the 70's and 80's so I can sing disco, classic rock and new wave at the drop of a hat. But I was raised on Big Band, swing, show tunes and music of the 40's and early 50's and I still love it. Heck, The Lawrence Welk Show was required viewing in my household. I was also raised on traditional Irish music so that has always been a staple of my listening choices.

I have very eclectic musical tastes, so there is not much that I won't listen to other than rap and most of the "hip hop" stuff out there....or the screeching of Mariah Carey. Her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. :-?

Oh, and Cate? The Phantom of the Opera is one of my all time favorite musicals and the soundtrack is in my top ten. I was fortunate enough to see Michael Crawford perform as the Phantom so the disc brings back a lot of memories for me. :D

Phantom with Crawford, too! 1991, Toronto, Pantages Theatre. GREAT seats!

Traditional Irish music, too - The Fureys, The Wolfe Tones, Tommy Makem and Liam Clancey . . .

My grandfather loved the songs of WWII, especially as perfromed by Vera Lynn, a British singer, and especially, "The White Cliffs of Dover". He also loved to sing in his rich baritone voice some of the old "cowboy" songs, such as "Let The Rest Of The World Go By", looking lovingly into my grandmother's eyes.

My late Mom and Dad were awesome together on a dance floor and when my brothers and I were small, before going out for the evening, they would take a turn or two around our living room, all dressed in their finery, to a tune on the hi-fi from Count Basie or Frank Sinatra. In my 7 year-old eyes, they might have been Ginger and Fred!!

My point being that, because they loved it and introduced me to it, I love it second and third hand, too! My iTunes is bizarre and wonderful!

After my retching at Pia's N-Sync I hesitate to write this, but what the hell, why not.

I had the biggest crush on Debbie Gibson growing up. So, yeah. I was one of the 10 people that biught Electric Youth.
