I only see 1- 2 JB concerts a year, so I'm not tired of BEG. This leg BEG closed only a couple of shows and I do not think the song as a closer is a big deal. Therefore, I am not voting.

I know it's the in thing to dislike Brown Eyed Girl but I happen to like it.
I always crank it in the Jeep. It rocks and the breakdown near the end live is always good.
I also happen to like Cheeseburger In Paradise too.......go figure

And as long as you are there.....who really cares anyway?

Hate break this to you but Defying Gravity is a cover too. :P
Very true. :D But right or wrong, I consider don't consider it a cover if JB recorded it on an album. Yeah, I know, under those rules I wouldn't call "Mexico" a cover, though it clearly is. But if you get hard core about what's a cover and what's not, you have to call "Changing Channels" a cover.... and "Last Man Standing".... and "It's My Job"....

Sooooo.... leaving the term "cover" aside, I think what I'm trying to say is that I prefer it when Jimmy ends the show with a song that he's recorded on an album.... that's in some way "his", more or less....

Again.. It was really good to see JB back at Alpine Valley. It was a great set list overall, but with the amount of songs Jimmy has to pick from, I don't understand the cover sh$t..... BEG, and Southern Cross should have been retired years ago... Werewolves of London should never have been done in the first place... If he plays anymore covers he might as well play the lounge room at the local Holiday Inn...

On the flip side, I guess Jimmy still playing, and playing anything is better than his retiring..... :pirate:
Don't you mean a Holiday Inn?
  Technicallities

im not a fan of brown eyed girl.with so many great jimmy buffett songs there is no need for it to be in the set (along with southern cross, piece of work, window on the world.etc) to me there just fillers...the only reason people expect it now and still hear it is because jimmy has rammed it down our throats live for the last 20 odd years.just like any other song,if u play it enough people will get used to it.now, only if he took that philosophy and applied to his non- sykbh material.i mean come on,fruitcakes is one of his most succesfull albums and he doesnt always play the title track(or anything else from it for that matter).u gotta wonder why???its a shame that so much great material is never performed live.that goes back to the failed idea of the "featured album" each night.that was a great idea that just ended.

The last song should be just Buffett and his guitar on stage singing the best of ad libs.

I'm definitely not a BEG fan, but if he wants to close with a cover, No Woman No Cry is my favorite

BEG is a good song played live and I certainly would choose this over cheeseburger (I hate cheeseburger), but this all goes back to at least he is still playing. I was really hoping for the album feature at the shows, that was a great idea that just stopped. I think most folks here agree that he should just drop the MAINSTREAM covers. no BEG or southern cross and please drop scarlet b's and give me uncle johns band if you must. OH well, the show is still great, glad he is still touring--I have an idea, what if JB played ONE song from each album on the setlist? That would be pretty cool.

I'd like to see him drop the covers and do his own stuff do but as long as he doesn't do that horrid Dave Matthews song Trippin' Billies anymore, I'm good with an occassional cover tune.

As far as closing with a cover goes, personally it could be a lot worse. At least his cover of BEG is enjoyable to a lot of people. Multiple artists have covered Purple Haze with mediocre to disastrous results. I voted that it makes no difference to me, because I honestly don't expect to see the same thing every year. My favorite closing songs off the top of my head are HWTP, and "Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans" that he did last year here in Indy. Would I prefer that he continue to do some of his more obscure songs acoustically to close out? Sure. But as others have mentioned, it's his show and he's running it. We are, as always, just along for the ride. Personally, my biggest beef with BEG as a closing song is that it's lacking Amy Lee's sax :-? But, he did close Charlotte with NW, so I guess anything is possible...

if he did one song from each album that would be very cool and very different.great idea!
