I admit it. Given the history of conversations about Johnson City Tennessee's most famous native, I said to myself "I'm sure glad I don't moderate in this forum!"
because Jimmy may be retired or worse in 10 years or so.Tampico wrote:El mojito wrote: Why mess with imitation when you can have the real thing?
I think this says it all
Lutrell, Tennessee, and I enjoy Kenny's concerts very much. It is NOT Buffett so don't go expecting a massive tailgate expereince. I just sit back and enjoy. I enjoy the fact that a Kenny concert does not take a week of planning, like Jimmy does.phjrsaunt wrote:I admit it. Not my intention to compare the two; just remembering some of the "heated conversations" that seem to arise when "KC" is mentioned around here.
It was the exact same thing for me and now I pretty much only listen to country and buffettcarey24 wrote: I dunno....Chesney's the only reason I started listening to country. I have a hard time classifying what is played on todays country stations as "country music." The sound that is being played today is exactly what Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, etc worked so hard to stay away from. Now don't get me wrong I think that there are a lot of great artists on country music today, it just disappoints me that it has become so pop and mainstream. I challenge any of the country radio stations to play a song off of the new Johnny Cash album that is coming out on July 4th or to play a song off of the new Guy Clark album due out in August. CMT is about the only station, radio or TV, that has gotten it right. Over the last few weeks I have seen shows on Springsteen's new album, the 20 greatest moments of Willie Nelson's career, and the top 20 countdown. CMT recognizes the importance of acknowledging all of the roads that lead down the path of "country." In the end all of these artists are walking down the lost highway that the Great Hank Williams paved many many years ago.

Didn't he write or co-write just about everything on the "Be As You Are"cd?DTinPA wrote:No one has mentioned the key difference. Jimmy actually wrote the songs that made him famous.
There are a few KC songs that I like, but none have the phrase "words and music by Kenny Chesney" in the credits.
