I admit it. Given the history of conversations about Johnson City Tennessee's most famous native, I said to myself "I'm sure glad I don't moderate in this forum!"

I think this says it all
because Jimmy may be retired or worse in 10 years or so.

The more island themed music the better is how I feel.

Lutrell, Tennessee, and I enjoy Kenny's concerts very much. It is NOT Buffett so don't go expecting a massive tailgate expereince. I just sit back and enjoy. I enjoy the fact that a Kenny concert does not take a week of planning, like Jimmy does.

"Oops" on the location  I was just remembering (or at least THOUGHT I remembered) when I spent a night in Johsnon City, someone said that it was his hometown.

Not my intention to compare the two; just remembering some of the "heated conversations" that seem to arise when "KC" is mentioned around here.

I don't think KC would ever claim to be JB.

But I doubt JB would claim to have a monopoly on Island music either.

It's an attitude.

I think it's great that there are lots of folks who enjoy it.

I really suprises me that fans of JB and his music would be so possessive over another artist embracing the same things we do.

My wife and I are Parrotheads who also enjoy KC. In fact, we went and saw him in concert for the first time a couple of weeks back and we both enjoyed the show quite a bit. It's the variety in life that makes it worth living in the first place, and honestly it would be boring to listen to Jimmy 24/7/365. My tastes in music vary too much. I think the music world is big enough to handle the fun and island themed contributions from both Jimmy and Kenny. ....to each their own.

I have a hard time classifying what is played on todays country stations as "country music." The sound that is being played today is exactly what Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, etc worked so hard to stay away from. Now don't get me wrong I think that there are a lot of great artists on country music today, it just disappoints me that it has become so pop and mainstream. I challenge any of the country radio stations to play a song off of the new Johnny Cash album that is coming out on July 4th or to play a song off of the new Guy Clark album due out in August. CMT is about the only station, radio or TV, that has gotten it right. Over the last few weeks I have seen shows on Springsteen's new album, the 20 greatest moments of Willie Nelson's career, and the top 20 countdown. CMT recognizes the importance of acknowledging all of the roads that lead down the path of "country." In the end all of these artists are walking down the lost highway that the Great Hank Williams paved many many years ago.

i enjoy a good portion of kenny's mucis. my only beef is that he should at least acknowledge that jimmy is a big influence in where he is today. both of their career paths are similar except kenny made more money much sooner to afford the lifestyle he has now

No one has mentioned the key difference. Jimmy actually wrote the songs that made him famous.

There are a few KC songs that I like, but none have the phrase "words and music by Kenny Chesney" in the credits.

Same here...a friend at work knew I liked Buffett and gave me a copy of "Be As You Are" to listen to. I love that CD, but as I listened to KCs older stuff I didn't like it as much...although I do love "When The Sun Goes Down".....I'm going to see KC at the end of July and then I can voice a real opinion.... 8)

Didn't he write or co-write just about everything on the "Be As You Are"cd?
