Don't get me wrong, I've certainly thought at times that a good, old-fashioned, swat on the ass would keep them in line, but we've always found a way to work around it.
MOST kids can be dealt with without getting physical, and if you're making YOUR system work, more power to you.
AGAIN, it's one thing to swat the fanny-it's totally another to inflict potential deadly force on a child. Unfortunately, there are too many who can't differentiate this fact.

I'm not a breeder, so I can't comment about hitting my kids. I can say, however, that several times a day I'd love to beat other people's kids.

However...BB....you know the old saying...
a sons and son until he takes a wife...
a daughter is a daughter for the rest of your life..
and I have found that to be true inspite of the rocky road her and I have gone down.

What a great saying. It's totally true.

If you want to REALLY enjoy yourself, use duct tape on the kids, and beat the parents.

Now that sounds like a great compromise!

I raised twin step daughters that were a holy nightmare....but they were both wilder than March hares....we got married when they were early teens and the path was pretty much set....both pregnant as teen agers...
My step son was an absolute joy (even though he did stupid kid stuff) and continues to be as an adult....he was busy and there were days....but really, in the grand scheme of things....it's been great.
My bio daughter is almost fourteen....and I'm almost afraid to say anything and jinx it, but she is a delight....smart, funny, respectful....but not afraid to question authority....she has been very easy to raise and so much fun to be around....I worry about the world around her though...dang, it's scary....
So really....my roundabout answer is "it depends"

I'm not sure yet.
I'll let you know in a few years.
My kids are still young, so I don't have much to compare.
But my sneaking suspicion is that girls are easier when they are younger; boys when they are older. So far this pans out.

You KNOW I was kidding, right?

Teenage girls are by far the most difficult IMHO, our four daughters were all delightful until middle school. The past 6 or eight years have been "interesting"

. Now that they are all out of their teens and in college, they are back to being a pleasure to be around (most of the time

)

You can do anything if you're armed well enough.

My son was 7 years younger than my daughter....she was a big help.
Enlist Victoria's help then you can triple-team him (Dad-Mom-Vic) !!!

No girls, just two boys, as you know, Mal.
BUT I can say that my little guy was into everything. I had particular problems with him torturing the cat.
The good news is that if you are consistent with your discipline (and I don't mean hitting!!!!), it does sink in and they will grow out of it!
Matthew still has a playful, sneaking side but it's almost always expressed in a fun way, like playing a little practical joke.
What do the teenage years hold? That's yet to be seen. Maybe that's when my older, good one, who's always followed the rules, will turn...
