Thinking about coming to Detrot show but having trouble finding info on the venue. Where is it exactly in relation to downtown Detroit? Where are closet motels/hotels to venue?

Go to Palacenet.com. Click on venues and there will be info regarding the DTE Music Theatre. It's about 35-40 miles north of downtown Detroit. It's technically Clarkston Michigan. It's only about 1 mile east of I-75, very easy to get to. Very nice venue in a semi-wooded area.

As far as hotels your best bet is probably the Auburn Hills/Pontiac area about 6-7 miles to the south of DTE. There may be some small mom & pop places in Clarkston but I'm not aware of them.

Hope you make the show L.S.!!! 8)

It's a small venue. You'll want to search 'Auburn Hills' for hotels and such, thats about 15 mins from the venue.

You don't want to stay in Detroit unless you're coming in for the casinos. The night life area is Royal Oak or Ferndale (and I haven't lived here long enough to have a clue about where things are or how long it takes to get places).

DTE is a pretty good place to see a show. However, on a tuesday night, there really isn't any "nightlife" in Detroit or its suburbs.

Jimmy has stayed a few times at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, MI because it's one of the nicest hotels near the venue (about a half hour away with no traffic) and Birmingham is a great suburb with plenty of shops and trendy restaurants.

The venue is about 15 minutes north of Daimler Chrysler's N. America headquarters in Auburn Hills and 10 minutes North of the Great Lakes Crossings outlet mall which is a huge indoor outlet mall. The closest hotels will be around there.

Detroit's suburbs of Birmingham & Royal Oak are pretty fun. There is not really much "night life" on a Tuesday night, but if you stay sober enough to make the drive back to Birmingham, you'll be able to find a couple cool places that stay open till 2 am.

I'd stay in Birmingham at the Townsend, though it's pricey it is in a really cool area.

Have fun. I lived in Detroit for 12 years and it is a great city. Check out Greektown in downtown Detroit as well as Windsor Ontario as they both have their charms. Also, if you're a baseball fan the Detroit Tigers may be in the midst of a pennant run at that time and there are a few hotels within walking distance of Comerica Park as well as Greektown.

If you really want to say that you've experienced "Detroit" I'd stay at the Atheneum Hotel right downtown. There is a lot to do within walking distance of the hotel (the Tigers and Lions play within a half mile of the hotel) and it's next to Fishbones, a great cajun restaurant. It's a good 40 minute drive to the show, but it will be more interesting staying there or in Brimingham than at one of the generic places near the show.

Have fun!
