Book review mentions Margaritaville

Post by Sam »

I have not heard of Christopher Moore before, or at least never seen his books.
It appears I have found me another "new" author to bring into my fold. His books sound a like a must have if the reviews are anywhere close to correct.

Has anyone ever heard or read any of his stuff? If you have please let me know and share what you thiink are his favorite books.

Anyway I just found out about him by accident and his book FLUKE.

Here is the link for more info on the book ( you can surf the site and find more books by the author) Looks like his works are a lot of funny and humorous reads, with zany characters and situations.

Here is the review in particular, I am speaking of:

“Readers new to the work of Christopher Moore will want to know . . . where has this guy been hiding? (Answer: In plain sight, since he has a devoted cult following.) . . . [H]e writes laid-back fables straight out of Margaritaville, on the cusp of humor and science fiction.”

I loved both FLUKE and THE ISLAND OF THE SEQUINED LIVE NUN. Absolutely hilarious.

SGH,
FIRST:
Thank you!
Can I ask how you discovered or found out about his books?
SECOND:
THAT does it HE is DEFINITELY on my must read list. I wonder how I have managed to miss him all this time?
THIRD:
I will have to call the local bookstore ( a good friend of mine owns it) and let her know. Her space is not large and she cannot possibly carry everything but she does a good job of keeping good and best sellers in stock and does manage to keep a wide variety of other books. When we talk she always ask for "new" authors to reccommend to people or what I think would sell good. So far I have not missed. 8)

She owns an independently owned bookstore and always has fresh coffee and makes time to chat with customers. She is happy to do special orders too. I would much rather deal with her than any of the big chain bookstore outlets.

I was doing a search on whale humor and it was a total "FLUKE" that I managed to find out about Christopher Moore and the book. Glad I did and that someone that has read the book and loved it.

I also could not resist the review that I posted above, with the Margaritaville reference. I take it, the reviewer is also, somewhat of a Parrothead.
Evidently the author has a large number of books.

Our own East Texas Parrothead pointed me toward FLUKE, and I moved on from there to another. I'm sure I'll read all books, even though I tend more toward Robert B. Parker, James Patterson, Nelson DeMille, etc. Chris Moore is hilarious!!

Along with Carl Hiassen, Laurence Shames, and Larence Sanders ( first names may be mispelled), a couple of names I am trying to recall, among one author has not done anything in a good while.

I reccommend Janet Evanovich. Her Stephanie Plum books are normally quite hilarious filled with zany acts and zany characters.

Have you have tried Randy Wayne White's books? Even his "travel" books are great. I HIGHLY reccommend that you do so. It is best if you read them order, as you discover more and more, about "Doc Ford" as the books progress. They are more of a serious read, sort of like Travis McGee novels, but not quite and they are different. They definitely stand on their own.
Also James W. Hall is another author I highly reccomend. You can find websites about both authors. I would mention more but I have to sign off and go out for a bit. I can get you and everyone some more authors when I get back.
Thank you again for letting me know about how you feel about this author.

I read Island of the Sequined Love Nun and liked it a lot.
I have not read anything other than that though.
I liked it because it was set in the islands. I'm not sure if his other books are.
It was the cover that caught my attention. I'm a sucker for a tropical colored cover
I have this one

FLUKE is set in Hawaii, where Chris Moore lives. :D
