DH?

For those who love the game of baseball - just wanted to know your feelings on the Designated Hitter?

IMHO, it shouldn't be there.

MLB is the only professional sport that has different rules for each league (that I'm aware of, anyway). NFL, NHL, NBA, etc., does not.

As an example.. Football. If the QB throws an interception? He is now on defense - they don't pull him out of the game.

I'm a National League fan as I grew up with the Cubs, and root for the Rockies. :D

I agree with you entirely! Also grew up with the Cubs (and am still with them). Baseball should be played on grass, in the daytime, with no designated hitter!!!

I agree - no DH (unless he or she can carry a tune and is familiar with the song catalogue of . . . him).

Agreed. Even though I'm a Royals fan (insert jokes here) from WAY back, I much prefer the strategy involved in NL games.

Get rid of the DH, and the sooner the better.

Do you think if you grew up in American League city you might think that the DH was a good thing? Thinkin' of Red Sox without Big Papi just ain't a good thought.

I agree. Then again I grew up watching the NL. I'm just not used to seeing a DH.

With apologies to my Yankee alligence, I absolutely agree.
It isn't bad enough the American League uses that silly "innovation" (courtesy of one of the biggest a-holes in the history of baseball-Charles O. Finley), but the damn MINOR leagues use it, as do semi-pro and American Legion baseball. JEEZ, LOUISE! It's ridiculous.
Teams like the Red Sox would FIND a position for David Ortiz to play with that deadly bat of his. I've heard (don't know if it's true or not) that he played quite a bit of 1st base and right field when he was in the minors. I'm sure he'd be a decent defensive player if given the chance.
And Edgar Martinez, whom I love dearly, was a pretty darn good 3rd baseman back in the day. I'm sure he could play that position if he had to.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it-GET RID OF THE D.H. IN ALL LEVELS OF THE GAME.
And while we're on the subject of getting rid of something,
GET RID OF THAT G.D. INTERLEAGUE PLAY B.S. TOO!

If it had to be one way or the other, I would say no DH, but I don't mind it the way it is. I like the strategy aspect from the NL, but appreciate the offensive punch that the AL adds.

I'm not a fan of the DH........it takes a lot of strategy away from the game!!

1)A little more offense in the game of baseball isn't a bad thing.

2)Nothing is more frustrating then watching somebody pitching a great game but have to get pulled in the 7th inning or so for a pinch hitter cause his teammates aren't giving him any run support. Plus remember when we were kids and you were in the field a certain kid would come to bat and you'd start chanting easy out! Well, 95% of the time that's the pitcher in the NL.

But....they do need to install it for both leagues!

love the DH. National League baseball is boring to me and spare me all the "that is the way the game is suppose to be played" crappola :D Nothing like watching a National League team have a promising inning only to watch the pitcher promptly strike out on 3 pitches in the dirt to end the inning :-?.

LONG LIVE THE DH

Get rid of it. There have always been guys who could hit but were terrible fielders, their teams always found a position for them to play. A perfect example is Ryan Howard from the Phillies. He plays in the National League so he has to play the field but he's such a terrible first baseman I think the only reason he wears a glove on the field is to keep his hand warm.

20 years ago that might have been a good argument, but how many pitchers go more than 7 innings in today's game? It seems like the goal of every manager is to get to the 7th inning, then let the bullpen take over.

Born and bred Red Sox fan, but I hate the DH rule. It just does not seem right to me. When you play a team sport, you play offense and defense. Even in baseball in the little leagues, high school, college and minors the pitchers hit. It is only in the American League of the pros that they don't.
