Quote of the Day
"The House of Representatives is full of insane jackasses"
Jon Stewart, The Daily Show 6/21/06
He is absolutly correct, in fact I would add the Senate, Supreme Court and White House to that statement. It is painfully clear that the Federal government is completely out of touch with today's American society. The Senate shot down a proposed minimum wage increase, even though it has been almost a decade since it was rasied last. So this November get off your ass and cast a ballot or I will come and kick your dog. not really but you get the point

While I respectfully disagree with Brad on the importance of raising the minimum wage, I strongly agree that the many levels of government are waaaay out of touch with most of our fellow citizens.

We owe it to ourselves, our families and our neighbors to be informed voters and make educated decisions in the upcoming elections.

I have to agree with you Bro!!!!
Raising Minimum Wage definitely hurts the small business employer and all small businesses. I can not see ,raising Minimum Wage, as being a good thing. It will definitely hurt many small businesses.
But then again....what do "some people" really care?..........Would such a law mean ALL ILLEAGLE ALEINS, are subject to earning such money and are entitled to other benefits that LEGAL LAW ABIDING Citizens are protected by and subject to ??
WHY????? They are ILLEGAL by their own choice.
Why don't we just go ahead and outlaw every small business in America, EXCEPT for those made by Illegal Alien workers.
Screw the citizens and their businesses and their NATURAL and their Constitutional Rights........The Illegal Alien seemingly have more Rights than our own Native Citizens.
Pardon me while I exercise my First Ammendent Rights and possibly other Rights and call such legislation the fraud/sham for what it is.
America may not be only for Americans, but that does not mean every American must give up his or her Right as an American for every illegal immigrant that comes here.
All LEGAL immigrants that break no laws are welcome.
Roll with the punches, play all of your hunches...come what may...

I understand about the small business employer but there is also a lot of single parents trying to make a living on $5.15, I can't imagine having to do that. No flaming intended.

Minimum wage was NEVER intended to support families. It is not meant to do so. It was never meant to be an ammount for anyone to live off of it any more than Social Security was to be a sole retirement.UAHparrothead wrote:I understand about the small business employer but there is also a lot of single parents trying to make a living on $5.15, I can't imagine having to do that. If people want a living wage then work up to it and earn it.
If not then pick your figure and let's set it at that .say $25.00 an hour? $50.00 an hour and close every small business out there and everyone pays $35.00 for a BIg mac and fries plus $9.95 for a medium drink?
Think about it....not flaming you Brad or anyone, but think about it......Think about who mininum wage really hurts. Think about the "boomerang effect"........
Yeah sure it sounds simple raising Minimum Wage is going to make some people's lives easier....but will it really? all the people at McDonald's etc get a nice raise....the price of food goes up.... Do you get a raise ?Does everyone else get a raise? Who can afford to eat there? okies so close them all down, because no one can afford to eat there any more. How many people get put out of work????
Ok so it does happen, and everyone DOES get a raise.......did anyone really make any money? Everyone is spending more money for the same things.....

or on 2 $5.15/hour jobs, putting in 70-80 hour weeks, and watching it all go for childcare, insurance, and never getting even a paycheck ahead. Granted, there are those who will argue that the market sets the cost of labour, and point to McDonalds workers making up to $10/hour (if they work specialized shifts and live in areas where labour is scarce.) However, gas in rural America costs about the same as it does in urban/suburban/exurban America, and food has to be shipped from point to point.. and in BFE northern MN, jobs paying $10/hour are fairly scarce.UAHparrothead wrote:I understand about the small business employer but there is also a lot of single parents trying to make a living on $5.15, I can't imagine having to do that. Less than 2% of the working population actually earn the federal minimum wage, and usually it's only for a short time, it's a starting point. Work hard...make more$$.
And IMHO I don't think the federal guvmint has any business setting wages for the private sector employees, can't find it in the Constitution.

The minimum wage is just one part of a complex and "out of whack" system.
$5.15 an hour is NOT a livable wage in Richmond, VA. By a LONG shot. Not to mention that more and more companies here will not OFFER full time employment, which means they don't off health insurance benefits.
"Out of touch" doesn't BEGIN to cover it.
