Thank you, Jen.

Wow.... when Jimmy flip flops.... and runs with his $$$...don't ask why!
I will (unless he details why, who, where, when , why, because, etc...) ....but you have lost your right to know why. He does not OWE me that, but I can say that I agree or disagree, especialy if he is vague why!Good or bad, sickness, or mental anguis, you will never know.... if he does not tell you. Again, this board would CRASH if he said tomorrow....Bye. That's it!

Simple.
JIMMY Buffett can do what he wants to do with the money he's earned.
WARREN Buffett can do what he wants to do with the money he's earned.
ANY Parrothead and/or AMERICAN citizen can do what he/she wants with the money he's earned.

You mean you'd rather have people dying of these diseases than have others displaced from jobs when a cure is found?
Sam wrote:I doubt if there will ever be any real cure for either to be found and released. I hope there will be, but I seriously doubt it.
I have every confidence that with enough time and money, cures will be found. History shows that diseases kill, time passes and money is spent, technology improves, and diseases get cured. Then more advanced diseases are born and the cycle starts again. That's just the way things work.

So I can make a judgement as a follower that he is acting IRRESPONSIBLY! That is all! He is deviating from his own advice/investment startegy. WHY????????????

It makes no sense!
From what I've read, he's said for a long time that he would do this at his death. It's coming earlier than expected - maybe so he can make sure it gets done to his liking.

Uh yeah like...like donating it to terrorists organizations for example?
Not saying Warren Buffett or Bill Gates are doing such ......yet within reason.....of how they utilize the money. and meanwhile EVERYONE ELSE has the RIGHT to question them about it, no matter if people care about it or not.
So why not help their own country and people first? How many nations are donating to Africa? How much food and money is sent there ever year? How much is donated to needy people right here in America.... pick your cause....from Breast Cancer to the homeless and hungry to our wounded Veterans or HAbitat for Humanity.
Think about your defense of such concuct, the next time you want or need to raise money for a cause. If that $1.5 BILLION was divided into $1 MILLION lump sums..... How many charities would recieve that $1 MILLION ? Think about it... he is donating a reported $37 BILLION. ( Is this before or AFTER the interest is accumulated on his donated moneys ?)
I am pretty sure at least a few people in here passed basic math.....and can figure it out.
So the next time you are seeking funds for your favorite charity and someone says.... "Why don't you go ask Warren Buffett or Bill Gates?" and gives you nothing....don't feel bad or be mad or upset.......after all it is THEIR MONEY and no doubt they have priorities to spend it on , but no doubt some of those people will still share a little.... More than can be said about Warren Buffett or Bill Gates....
Yep No one HAS TO DONATE.....We are reduced to mouse clicks for some causes to rely upon donations.....Oh well nothing like thinking some RICH PEOPLE would ever care to donate $1.5 BILLION to such causes

fins, you keep talking about him deviating(?) from his plan. And that's why you are angry, right?
(If that is not why you are angry than I apologize, I misread your statements.)
Won't he be getting a big tax break? And with the left over money, some what 10 billion or so, won't that make him an outragous(?) sum of money in two days? (I don't literally mean two days. it was a hyperbole.)
If you have two thousand dollars invested and then give 80% or however much he did, then yeah, bad move. But when your talking that kind of money, who gives a s***.

I only pointed out that I saw problems on both sides of the WAY he is donating. Being forced to spend $1.5 BILLION a year??? Nothing left over.... Does not anyone see room for problems and waste with that???
Do the math and figure out how much money that must be spent each day of the year, on an average.
I also question, with so many needy charities out there, go ahead and pick one or more.
Sure it is his money to do with as he pleases. God I hope and pray it helps some people.
He could have helped alot of homeless people out, he could have created businesses and put unemployed people to work, or built shelters, or fed a lot of hungry people right here in America, or paid for rehabilitation of wounded vets, or many numerous other things, such as feeding the starving children of the world, that we hear so much about that can be educated and fed and clothed for so little ammount per day or to helping peoplerebuild or relocate from natural disasters.
That is all that I was pointing out.
Care to say Bill Gates favorite charities need more than any other charity?
Is Bill Gates a good guy to operate them? I can't say. I do know that Bill Gates can well afford his own charities.
It's $4.1 million per day. It doubles the foundation's current expenditures and the must-spend clause puts pressure on them to expand their operations. It also saves him time and money in setting up a new foundation and staffing it.
The point is that he trusts the Gates' foundation to put his money to good use. After all, he's giving the bulk of it to someone who knows better than anyone else in the world how to manage money.

Yes $37 Billion is a lot of money, but it's not enough to solve all of the world's problems. There is still a limit to the resources. It is up to the Gates foundation to find new charities to support and make the most out of the money being donated. He is basically saying to Bill Gates "I know I'm not going to live forever, I want to make a difference, put my money to good use". The amount doesn't change the principles involved.

Or else how to make it and to keep it.........
Any idea how much money is wasted each year in the military because they MUST SPEND EVERY PENNY. Anything turned back in or left over will cost them their next year's budget.
Like I said before ..I can see both sides of rhe coin.
Roughly $4.1 MILLION a day, according to your figure. So that would ammount to giving that much to 365 different charities here in America....
And how many charities here in America could he donate $1 MILLION to, in one years time, out of $1.5 BILLION? How many PHCs are there that could use that to help?
Is there something wrong with helping people at home out FIRST? How many kids would be able to go to college or would not not go to sleep hungry?
How about how many "Habitats for Humanity" could be built? How many busineesses could be created to employ unemployed people or educate them to get a job?
I could go on...but why bother?

Many terrorist organizations DID recieve funding, raised, through legal means right here in the States and did so for many years.

If you look at the disbursements from the Gates foundation, you will see that a considerable amount of support is given to domestic causes.

Managing money means maximizing revenues and minimizing expenses wherever possible. Bill Gates has proven that he knows how to find the right mixture in varying market conditions, and Warren Buffett trusts his judgment. I never said the military's financials are well-managed, so I really don't follow your analogy there.
And who's to say the Gates foundation won't expand to include some of the causes you're so adamant about?

Think about how many charities could use that $1 MILLION out of $1.5 BILLION. How many charities right here in America could and would benefit. That is over 999,999,999, plus another roughly 499,999,999 (or so) charities that could recieve $1 MILLION. That is just from one set ammount of $1.5 BILLION......
How many PHCs out there could use the money for their causes? Rather than a few hundred dollars raised here and there?
The infusion of that money into American charities and helping to employ people right here in America, and make them self sufficent and allow them to contribute to society, would allow them to contribute more in the long run.

But not all of them are well-managed - like it or not, corruption is everywhere. Buffett is leaving it up to the Gates foundation to find the charities worthy of his support. That's where the trust factor comes into play.

I used the miltary as an example. They are not the only ones to do so.
Whose to say what the Gates Foundation will or won't do?
My point is if Gates is so giving, why hasn't he given more? He does not need Warren Buffett's money to fund his personal charities. He could fund it himself, and never miss a dime.
The Gates only remain in charge as long as both them are alive.....THEN what happens to the money? anyone checked? ANyone want to check on the 5 charities and see what the annual dispusrement is?
My understanding of the article was that Warren BUFFETT was donating to 5 different charities. with the majority going to Gates favorite charity. yes it it is important to cotrol the money and spend it wisely.......but not to force people to spend it on new office equipment or whatever.at the end of the year because they must show a ZERO balance at thr end of the year.
