Concert Prep or Lack

I been seeing Jimmy in concert for near 30 years on and off. Of late I've seen Jerry Jeff Walker, Todd Snider, John Prine and many others. Always have done my "homework" before a JB show, meaning listening to many of his albums to get familar or refresh my memory.

Gonna be at Jones Beach this Saturday and I gotta admit this is the first time in recent memory I am unprepared. I figure I qualify for a waiver of the final exam, but does anybody share this behavior?

Personally I always think it is fun to "prep" before a concert. Now that I have young kids, my "preparation" has changed, but when I was single I always took the day or two before a concert off work (well, okay my boss INSISTED that I be gone the day before, the day of, and the day after because I guess I was a bit hyper....go figure  ) and would go to the pool, have a few boat drinks and would listen to the entire JB collection from start to finish. Once I had my own house, it was fun to sit in my little ole blow up pool with a raft and have the stereo filled with cd's. Once I made it through the collection, then I was ready to pack the vehicle and head to the venue.

I like to try and "bone up" on old songs just in case he plays them. I don't look at playlists cuz I want to be somewhat surprised. I like to try and guess the song with the folks next to me. Call me "old school" but that's what makes it fun for me. It's also why I get pavillion seats nowadays. Don't get me wrong, the lawn was fun "back in the day" but I'm to the point in my parrothead lifestyle that I want to be surrounded by folks there for the music, not just the party......

I don't "study" for the concerts, but I play only Buffett on my car CD player for a few weeks before the concerts, and when I go to the gym, I wear Buffett shirts.

I like listening to the live CDs and boots to get reved up for the show. I especially like to listen to the show(s) I was at the previous year.

I always wear my Jimmy shirts before the show, might meet someone who is also going to the show. Always a conversation starter. :D

When I used to go, I would avoid Buffett for a few days, sometimes even a week, before the show. Kind of like the calm before the storm.

Well it's down to a day and change until JB@JB. I'm not gonna be able to name that song in like three seconds, but that's ok. I was just asking myself the question:

Which stranger has occupied more time in your life than anybody else?
I guess it's the formerly Blonde Stranger. For nearly 30 years I've been listening and singin and dancing & drinkin & posting to the Internet along with JB.

My life's been better for it all and I thank JB here cause I cant' seem to get to do it in person. JB & his websites have led me to Steve Goodman, John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Todd Snider & now Robert Earl Keen.

Hope the party never ends! :-)
