I learned the real words to this one when the actresss who played Penny was a guest on RM.... :o

"Writin fan letters to Sky's niece Penny"

vs. my version of:

"Writin fan letters, disguising each penny"
"Reading departure signs in some big airport reminds me of the places I've been"

I thought they were the words too, until right now. Who says you don't learn something new each day.

My bad was when I first heard Volcano a very long time ago I though the chourus went "I don't know where I'm a gunna go when the bar is closed"

Amy is the Queen of misheard lyrics - I will see if we can remember any good ones.

If you all want to see the big database of these, check out kissthisguy.com "scuse me, while I Kiss This Guy" has to be the all-time classic, although we are going to pass on the "I'm afraid of Dumbo" line on to JB.

I bought that book when it first came out years ago...some of them had me howling.

To this day I will still sing "Baking Carrot Biscuits" instead of Taking Care of Business. There's another one I will always substitute too but can't think of it right now. :-?

My bro and I used to drive down the road rewriting the lyrics to various songs and cracking ourselves up. Those were good times...I miss them. :(

I want to add another one in here...

In the Peanut Butter Conspiracy, I'd always thought it was:

Lookin' back at my hard luck days
I really do have to laugh
Workin' in a dive for twenty-six dollars
Spendin' it all on grass
:o

Turns out he was spending it all on "draft"

The last time I saw John Fogerty he sang "there's a bathroom on the right" one time through the chorus.

I always thought "grass" worked better than "draft". Especially in those his early days.

I have to add about half of Tampico Trauma:

Real: I left for Tampico last July
Me: I left Fort Tampico last July

Real: Then to greet us, were pretty senioritas, I swore that I would not go home then
Me: Head to the Gritas, for pretty senioritas, I swore that I would not go home late.

Real: When the man looked in the window of the bar and he grinned
Me: When the man looked in the window of the party game

I also couldn't make out Federales.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

Well, if you ever head to Tampico, you might want to take a translator along!
