Jerry Falwell says.....

Falwell on the "moral pervert[s]" in Hollywood: "[Y]ou almost got to be a homosexual to be recognized in the entertainment industry anymore"
Criticizing what he deemed the immorality of Hollywood during his June 25 televised sermon, Jerry Falwell, founder and chairman of the Moral Majority Coalition, declared, "You know, you almost got to be a homosexual to be recognized in the entertainment industry anymore." Falwell also described "[m]ovie stars" as "moral pervert[s]" for "having babies" out of wedlock.

From Falwell's June 25 sermon at the Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he serves as senior pastor:

FALWELL: Illicit sex today. Today the world has gone sex crazy. Illicit sex has become the downfall of many in the Bible. Movie stars not married to each other, having babies and making headlines all over the world as though they were doing some great thing. Big deal! Just another moral pervert. And for them to become heroes for our kids. My wife and I will be married 49 years the next anniversary.

[...]

And don't, don't ever be proud of sin. You know, you almost got to be a homosexual to be recognized in the entertainment industry anymore. Ellen [Degeneres], and all the rest. I love them, pray for their souls, but they're immoral. And the Hollywood scene -- five and eight and 10 marriages -- not something to be emulated.

***FYI***

Those views expressed by Falwell, Pat Robertson, Rod Parsley, John Hagee, Rev. Thomas Euteneuer, Fred Phelps, and any other nut job anyone wants to start a thread about DO NOT represent the views of most Christians nor do they represent the teachings of Christ.

U.A.H.:
If 95% of the people of this world (and ALL of the people on B.N.) were 1/10 the person you are, this world would be BEYOND fantastic.

Thanks for being the person you are.
What would it take to get you to move to Iowa and organizing a congregation HERE?

I appreciate that very much, I just hate the fact these people are the ones getting the press and representing the Christian faith. I guess I need to write a book.

Yeah, you SHOULD write a book, U.A.H.
Of course Falwell and his kind don't represent the views of the masses, but, as with anything, anytime someone has an opinion on ANYTHING controversial, it's sure to create MORE controversy.

But I want you to know that you are playing a MAJOR part in getting me through what I'm going through right now, and I do appreciate that more than you know.
Thank you!

I would buy it. I wish more "Christians" would speak out against these phonies.

Thank you, Brad. Unfortunately there are people who buy into (literally) their crap. Those with a shred of common sense know better. :)

As a former resident of Va. close to the awesome Thompson Road Baptist Church, may I say; GO AWAY YOU SICK LITTLE MAN YOU!

QUIT BUYING THOSE EXPENSIVE SUITS THAT YOU BUY!

TRY TO FIND FAITH AND NOT IN YOURSELF!

You harm Christianity more than you help it.

Please send this to your Idol Pat (the anti -christ) Robertson!

Sorry I have very strong feelings about this because I grew up with these jerks. :-?

this may sound odd coming from me, but...

he does have a point. It is pretty pathetic when you have kids born out of wedlock getting 5 days worth of headlines/lead stories just because their parents are famous (and promoting a movie, so it leads into the machine...) For that matter, an example that might seem a little dated even tho applicable: If you are Andre Agassiz and you are marrying your girlfriend in a big church ceremony, fine. But please, the bride wearing a pure white gown when your 3 month old child is sitting with the grandparents in the front row? Best of my knowledge, there's only been one "immaculate conception" and I doubt this one was it...

that said, Falwell and Robertson, and Parsley need to go away or at least admit that all they are is frontmen for political organizations cloaked in religion for the 501c3/tax-exempt status that churches enjoy. Any connection they had with local churches we all know went away when they hit the 2000 member size or more and started hiring "associate ministers" to handle the tasks like hospital/home visits and the like so "the Rev" can focus on his speaking career and twisting the Word to fit whatever political agenda they have.

If there is a bright side this sorry state of affairs where charismatic evangelists do as much to drive people away from Christianity as they claim to do in the Lord's name, it's this: organizations like these tend to crumble after the frontman kaks it. Having done their best to make it a cult of personality as much as a church, there is room for only one at the top; and even if they've groomed someone as their hand-picked successor, that person still is kept at a distance to keep them from drawing attention away from "the star of the show". The gullible who got sucked into the fold by this huckster or that one's message will drift away to some other snake-oil salesman, and eventually Falwell's kids/"kids" will be left with a massive church filled more with echoes than butts in the pews.

How can a leader of a church expect to draw anyone in with his attitude?

He is the reason Christians have to walk around defending what they believe.

He does not, has not and will not ever speak for me.

What R2 said....

You'd have thought that the "Brangelina" baby was the second coming or something the way the press carried on. And People magazine named them the "Most Beautiful Family"??? Gimme a break. I'm no prude but it's certainly a screwed up message when the press canonizes an adulterous affair and resulting pregnancy just because the participants happen to be physically "gifted" and famous. However, I have to tell you I'm finding old Brad a LOT less attractive since this whole thing started.

Maybe it's why I find Jimmy so appealing. Still enough of the bad boy in him to remain interesting yet a solid citizen where it really counts. Now if I could just find his cosmic twin???? :D
