An Apology

Buffett Fans:
I wholly apologize to anyone who attended Mac McAnally's show at the Stephen Talkhouse with the thought in mind that Jimmy would be making a guest appearance.
Mac put on a wonderful show tonight, but like in past years, JB was a no-show.
The information that I passed along on this forum, stating that Jimmy would be appearing, was by specific request of the Talkhouse management.
Everyone please know that I will not do this again.

I'm glad Mac put on a great show; I wish I could have been there. And don't sweat it, BSHERRIS, you passed on info you thought was legit...you're not the first one whose rumor didn't prove true. One would hope the Talkhouse folks passed on their info in good faith....
And, Jimmy will be performing for folks tonight....

Don't worry, it's 3 strikes and your out

You get one more shot in 2008 when JB does JB again (positive thinking here!!)
I think the Talkouse folks are playing you in hopes to get the word spread to get more folks through their doors.
Hopefully those in attendance were there for Mac anyway, JB playing a couple of songs would have been a bonus, but like Q and S said - They'll be 3 hours of him tonight anywho.
Happy 4th of July weekend everyone!!!
CHEERS!!

I'd think the negative publicity out of having apologize for the same thing twice would far outweigh any good publicity that could have come out of it.
Think about it, the people on this board (and how ever many others you have passed this info to), may have gone there in good faith for one show and will most likely avoid the place like the plague for any other events that may be held there. And will probably pass that info along to their friends as well.
Doesn't sound like the deceit was a very sound business decision to me.

As was the case last year, I believe Jimmy was expected. There were two mic's set up, Jimmy's family, business associates, and friends were in the audience, and people were keeping an eye on the door. Considering the miles and miles of standstill eastbound traffic I saw when I left, I think it's possible Jimmy got stuck in traffic and couldn't get there...
If you went solely in the hope of seeing Jimmy, you really have nothing to complain about anyway... Jimmy wasn't scheduled to play; Mac was. If Jimmy shows up and sits in, that's always interesting, but most of the audience was there to see Mac, never mind if Jimmy made an appearance or not, and the show was great, as always!

Well, that's too bad.... So was the other mike set up...umm...quite a bit lower down than Mac's? Glad to hear it was a great show!

Oddly enough, I thought about the traffic issue as well, but the five of us in our party left Northport at 4PM (the ride was estimated at one hour, 45 minutes on the vehicle's GPS) and we still made it with time enough to get a half hour bite to eat in Amagansett before the show (which started 10 minutes late because of a Soldier Ride video presentation prior to the show).
We did use some back roads through Sag Harbor to avoid the main road, but bear in mind, Jimmy lives in Sag Harbor, and would easily know the same route that we took. BTW, from where he lives in Sag Harbor, the ride would be no more than 10 minutes - at best - to the Talkhouse.
I still do not know what happened that night, and at this point, I really don't want to know. I'm really tired of the whole matter, however I really want to thank many of the forum members who accepted my apology in stride.
In the future, if the folks at the Talkhouse want to publicize rumored special appearances, well, I'm sure they know where this forum is located, and they can handle it directly.
On good faith, I got myself in the middle of this, and I shouldn't have. Since I believe that every person is responsibile for their actions, I have tried to make amends for my part in this.
When it gets right down to it, Mac is a gentleman who always puts on a great show. He is a class act who is well worth supporting.

I learned somewhere that a bad experience can take up to 10-15 years before it is forgotten. I think the Talkhouse sort of shot themselves in the foot. I, too, would remember and think twice the next time they need a favor.

You don't owe anyone an apology. What I thought was strange was how one of the BN staffers got on you just for posting and nothing had even been said negative or otherwise about the matter. Surprise appearances by artists happen all of the time (and sometimes they don't). Don't go thinking you need to apologize for that.

You want to see Jimmy, buy a ticket to a Jimmy concert. Want to see Mac, buy a ticket to a Mac show. Why the hell should should anyone be mad at you because JB did not show up somewhere that he was not scheduled and people did not lay out cash to see him???? That is ridiculous. If people hold their breath waiting for something to happen that is only speculated, one less car on the freeway tomorrow...

I just checked this board to see how long it took the word to get over here...I wasn't surprised.
1. Traffic is not the issue. Jimmy can get to the Talkhouse in 15 minutes from his house in North Haven via 114/27/Further Lane if there's traffic/27/Cablevision parking lot.
2. Ramos was still expecting the boss until after Mac started playing.
3. Mac believed that JB
could come.
4. Anyone who thinks Peter was calling Buffett fans to boost the door is an idiot and doesn't know anything about Peter or the Talkhouse...he thought he was doing
them a favor. Most regulars and friends of Talkhouse folks knew before Friday...hell, everyone in Amagansett, Wainscott, East Hampton & Skag Harbor got the word...Vinnie the Barber knew. However, I'm sure that next time Peter wants to sell out the house, he'll come here and get the "high rollers" to come out and show us "Po Folks" in East Hampton how to party.
5. The chances of JB showing up randomly at the Talkhouse are inversely related to the number of Parrotheads that are expected to be there.
