Breast feeding in public

I don't agree with it. I have no desire whatsoever to see a woman's breast hanging out. And if I were breast feeding I would never do it in public, I just think it's gross. JMO. Course I think the whole thing would be really annoying, so I don't know what I do if I had kids.

If my kid is hungry, I'd do it (and have done it) where I need to do it.

I think most mothers would prefer someplace quiet and comfortable to do it, out of public eye and I GAG when people say to go do it in a bathroom. Those folks obviously have no clue what it takes to actually do it.

I bet you've seen plenty of women breastfeeding in public and you didn't even notice. There is no need for the breast to be 'hanging out'. Of course some women just don't care and push it...but that is not the norm, nor is it the only way to do it.

If you ever have children, do educate yourself on the benefits of breastfeeding before you call it 'gross'.

I told them I would if they'd eat their dinner in there first. Funny....no one took me up on that!

I have, and quite honestly I think I would pump my milk into a bottle before I would breastfeed. And what I meant by gross, is when it is done in public.

I really have no desire to see any breasts that do not belong to me personally.

I think I'd find another way to state the third choice. Taking a dump is natural but I don't want to watch anyone doing it.

Lots of women breastfeed in public and you don't see anything because they're discreet. There's no need for anyone other than the baby to see the woman's breast....

I often find breastfeeding in public less objectionable than women flashing at a concert or at a tailgate party.....

and as for using a public bathroom??? ewwwwwwwwwwwww................. :x

That's a lot easier said than done for some women.

I have a feeling non-boobiefeedinginpublic supporters have this vision of mega-boob hanging out when you do it, and that is really not the case. Every woman who I have actually noticed doing it (and as Soraya said, you often don't even notice it I'd bet), takes great steps to ensure it's as private as possible.

It seems like the *thought* of breastfeeding and seeing boob makes people more uncomfortable than actual boob-sightings that occur during breastfeeding.

Sorry, but you just have to do what you have to do when you have a baby. So I guess women with babies should either leave and go home when they need to feed their baby (which can be every two hours or so when it is young) or never leave the house? (and like Mal and Soraya said, doing it in the bathroom is really not a great option)

Most mothers are very discreet about it and many prefer to not do it in public, but sometimes you just have to.

I don't really get why people see it as gross....it's just nature's way of providing nourishment for a baby. But that's JMO.....and I'm a mom who has breastfed, so I guess I'm a little biased.

Do you shield your eyes on the beach or watching commercials or movies with any kind of revealing clothing?

Bikinis show more boob than breastfeeding does.

Geee. So far women supporters have children and the women who don't support it don't have children. Go figure.

Edit: Thanks Penny. Went and ruined my theory.

Been there, done that....pumping isn't always easy for everyone, though a lot of women do it quite successfully. I never had much success with it, though, and believe me, I tried.

That's entirely impractical because there's no way to store it. Without preservatives it goes bad very quickly. Besides (being very practical again), you can't just pump milk whenever, off the baby's schedule, because there isn't any (or enough) to pump...

Personally I'd rather not see it. It just makes me feel uncomfortable. Would I tell you not to? Heck no.

I dunno..I guess I'm just funny about my breasts, I just think having a baby do that all the time would be very, very annoying. In addition, I would work, at least part time, ASAP after having children. That said, there's a good chance my kids will just be bottle fed. My mom did not breastfeed my sister or I and we both turned out just fine.

Being a modest person, I was pretty self-conscious about breast-feeding, and would leave the living room of my house and breastfeed in the privacy of a bedroom, when anyone but my husband was around. So, no way could I have done it in public.

But it doesn't bother me when other people do it modestly and privately. I avert my eyes!

I had a president of a women's club who breastfed while standing up and chairing our meetings. I admired her comfort-level with us clubmembers, and her chutzpah!

Yes, you probably did....but that is no reason to say that your child, should you ever have one, wouldn't. The health benefits are too numerous to mention. It's great that we have healthy formula for mothers that can't BF...but it really is the second choice.

And if you think breast feeding a child is going to be 'very, very annoying'.....lol....you don't need to be having kids anytime soon. That is about the easiest part of having a baby.....the rest is much worse.
