Post by pbans »

Got some great tips from tj about the ties....and it got me thinking...surely there is a VAST wealth of knowledge out there in BNland....so what do you know about......?

I know a lot about vintage Barbie and other dolls....enough to ID and give a ballpark value......

I know some about vintage/antique toys.....mostly baby boomer stuff

I know a little about antique glass and pottery....enough to be dangerous

As far as product knowledge for ebay types of stuff, I know about Ties, Vintage British Cars & Car Parts, Antique Wooden Boats and Boat Parts, Computer stuff, Birds/Dogs stuff, tools, early Anime/Manga Comic books, Gun Stuff (spare barrel's for TC Contenders/Encores as well as others), archery equipment, and tons more.

This is stuff that I've personally bought and sold on ebay. I'm missing a lot more, I'll update this thread as I remember more.

Feel free to ask me any questions about the above types of items, including valuation or how to list on ebay.

Speaking of which, if you didn't know, the best time to end an auction is 7PM California time on a Saturday Evening. Second best is to shoot for Sunday evening.

The Betsy's from the 50's do pretty well if they are in good shape....but anything past about 1960, unless it's still in the box isn't terribly valuable....maybe $20-25.... If she was your childhood doll, they are fun to fix up for sentimental reasons!

That's what I was going for... not looking to sell her, but do you know where I could bring / send her for a makeover?

By the way... I can see how my original post wasn't clear... and had you said I could cash in on her, I'd have sold her in an instant! She is of no sentimental value to me actually... I honestly didn't even know I owned a doll - I certainly never played with her! She was found in my mom's attic, and everyone concluded she was mine since the year on her butt was the same as mine! :o

But, my girls aren't like I was, and actually play with girl stuff, and might show her interest if she had nice hair and a new outfit. At very least, she'd look better on the shelf that way! (I'm a pack rat... don't throw anything away... obviously!  )

Thanks Paige! :D

Antique jewelry. I collect it....LOTS of it!

You gimme a pic and the marking on the back of the jewelry, I can find what it's worth. It's harder if it's not marked.

I'm still looking for a Hattie Carnegie piece....they go HIGH. :x

At one time I had a guitar pick that supposedly came from a Buffett concert that just has "s*** brown" printed on it. :P I traded it for a bunch of other stuff a few years back....

I haunt the garage/estate sales for old jewelry too. (some of it I tear apart and use to make my jewelry  ) However, I've found some pieces that were way to cool (or strange) to tear apart.

I don't know anything about the value of the various pieces, but some of them are so interesting that I've kept them as is.

Everybody says "You should open an antique jewelry store...you have so MUCH !!!"

:o
I say, NO NO ! I ain't selling my collection....I love every piece. Plus, the Bakelite bracelets I bought years ago for $5 are now going for $50-$100. Someday I may sell a lot of the collection, but I have my grandmother's pieces and they are staying in the family. :D
