Which do YOU prefer?

Ok so I was the lucky one who got to host the 4th of July picnic this year, and I got into an argument with one of the inlaws
The fight was about what grill cooks food better (gas or charcol)
Now whenever I cook out I use charcol, (and i used charcol for the cookout) I bought a nice large charcol grill several years ago and it still works wonders. This particular inlaw said that whenever you use charcol more "fumes" get into the food, the food doesn't get done as well if use charcol, and the charcol doesn't kill all the "diseases" in the meats.
So this inlaw just ate potato salad and baked beans because she refused to eat food that came off a charcol grill
The above info. sounds like a bunch of BS to me but what do I know...
so what grill do you prefer?

i think it depends on what you are making....somethings taste better on charcoal. and it also depends on how much time you've got....a gas grill heats up faster than charcoal too
so i would say both!

Charcoal, I don't need anymore gas than I already have.

She is correct about the fumes... IF you use charcoal with lighter fluid in it or any of those "quick start" briquettes.
She is incorrect on some of the other points. Its not the gas that kills the bacteria that causes you to get sick. The heat is what kills it off. Most heat thermomoters say beef should be at 160, but you're coming close to making the burger charcoal at that temp.
I "prefer" meat cooked over wood chips. But since wood chips and charcoal take a while to get to the right temp, I have a very nice gas grill.
Gas grills heat up faster and they are easier to adjust the temperature. I bought some flavored briquettes that give the food more of a hickory taste.

Didn't we have a similar poll recently?

PROPANE grill with a few soaked mesquite chips works pretty well!

Charcoal is the only way to grill!!! If I wanted to cook over a gas flame .........I would cook over a burner on my stove.
They have those chimney fire starters now and I got one at K-Mart for under $8.00. I think thry are pretty KEWL and you don't need lighter fluid.
I have to log off. Thunderboomer in the area.

Charcoal has the best favor hands down I BBq a tri-tip, Hot Links and corn on Tuesday and I tossed in some oak chips to give the tri-tip some smoke favor

also I cooked the tri-tip to 120 then covered it with foil to rest. It was Phantastic and better then any Restaurant

oh, pooh...... yeah, lighter fluid does add some taste/fumes, but it's not dangerous..... (unless you pour the lighter fluid on a lit fire..... *FOON*!!

)
OTOH, I use gas, because it's so much easier.....
as far as I'm concerned, pure personal preference...... I'd rather have a nice steak over a real wood fire any day, but I'm not going to to go to trouble....

She is full of the **.
As someone said heat kills the germs, not gas. If gas did kill the germs then why cook at all. Just turn the gas on and hold the meat under the gas fumes.
Charcoal for me. I like the whole experience. BBQ is not just cooking outside.

I prefer a gas grill.
BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT MY WIFE BOUGHT ME.
and there's going to be four dead cows on that sucker in about 30 minutes.

Propane is the safe, modern way to grill.
Charcoal is UN-American, and it causes cancer!

have both, use both.
Really enjoy charcoal in the fall/winter months. Love to use cedar planks to cook pork and salmon
gas is great for grilling veggies before you cut them up for a salad.

No-just a bunch of small steaks.
(Small by MY standards, anyway).
SPEAKING OF WHICH, it's time to get to it.
I'll check in later. G'nite.
