Good for you and good luck. The urge for a smoke will pass. Although, it will harder some times than others. I used to smoke and quit "cold turkey". The strongest urges were a few months after I quit. The worst was after a few drinks surrounded by friends that were smoking. Eventually, the smoke itself will bother you and the urge goes away altogether. All it takes is willpower.

thanks toni! we've actually been trying to figure out how we paid for smoking to begin with. hubby budgets down to the penny, but we've never allocated for cigarettes (almost $4 per day, per person; sometimes more). we think it was usually lumped up with our gas expenses, since we usually bought smokes when we filled up the cars.lovin_jimmy wrote:yay mal & matt!!!

we're not specifically setting aside our former smoking money, but we are looking at hiring a cleaning person to help us out at home a few times a month, once we've realized a little bit of our savings!!!

I won't drink alcohol for a while, 'cause that is when I always slip and bum a smoke off someone. I think I said before, when I want to smoke, I don't want just one, I want a whole pack.Tropic_Al wrote:Good for you and good luck. The urge for a smoke will pass. I am looking forward to the day when I think cigarettes are disgusting, I've just never quit long enough to get that far.
I was brave today and had a cup of coffee, and so far I'm doing pretty well. I definitely want to smoke, but I don't want to give in and have a cigarette, 'cause I've worked so hard to get this far. I guess I'm just trying to get my body used to enjoying things I like but doing them without smoking. Liquor is gonna take a while, though.

I remember the first two weeks being the hardest. Hang in there BB!
Yes, it's an oral thing, but it's also a psychological thing.
There are times and places that will cue you to wanting a smoke.
Change your habits to avoid them.
i.e., sit in a different chair after dinner or do a different activity than you used to do when you were smoking to break the mental trigger that's telling you to pick up that smoke.
Just change the routine up a bit.
And keep up the self-talk.
We're here for you.

Oh yeah, it is!
I'm not so sure coffee this morning was a good idea (but I didn't sleep well last night and REALLLY needed the pick me up). So, I'm just gonna keep drinking coffee instead of going outside for a smoke.

Don’t know if you are using the patch (I hope so), but remember that just because you take it off that does not stop the transdermal properties of the nicotine still on your skin. Physiologically what can happen is very dangerous:
Nicotine constricts blood vessels, so that is still occurring in your body. Were you to take off the patch and light up, you would be introducing more nicotine into the bloodstream further constricting the blood vessels. The potentially dangerous part is that you would also be introducing carbon monoxide which reduces the blood’s ability to carry oxygen. It is a very bad thing.
Bottom line: Keep up the good work!!!
You ARE a non-smoker!!!!
(plus you don't smell like an ashtray).

Congrats to you, too. You ARE a non-smoker!!tjtryon wrote:This thread gave me enough kick in the ass to finally say enough... I haven't had a smoke since last Saturday (today is 4 days), and the lovely wife hasn't had one since 7/5. I'm taking wellbutrin, and don't really stress over cravings now either.
If nothing else, this thread was good for that...
Wellbutrin, huh? How about those *vivid* dreams? I still remember mine.

I picked up a BIG bottle of Ambian (10) from the pharmacy today. I'll be able to sleep right through them. I do remember those dreams from the first time I took it....Y-NO-9-O wrote:Congrats to you, too. I'm all about the patch. I haven't cheated at all, but previous times when I tried to quit I always took the patch off and lit up right away. I know it's bad for ya, but I lived through it.Y-NO-9-O wrote:Don’t know if you are using the patch (I hope so), but remember that just because you take it off that does not stop the transdermal properties of the nicotine still on your skin.
