Are you a quitter? (like me)

I am. Well, at least so far so good. I'm halfway into week two of quitting smoking with the patch firmly adhesed to my arm and sunflower seeds planted in my cheek.
The last two days have been especially hard. Harder than the first week combined. Seems kinda weird because you'd think it gets easier as time goes by, but for some reason I sooooooo want to have a smoke. It's hard to describe because I don't really want the "smoke" but I REALLLLY want to have a cigarette. (Don't worry, I won't because I'm entirely too lazy to drive to the gas station).
I'd looooooooooooooooooooooooove to hear stories from other quitters!! It's a huge accomplishment for anyone.

What about Matt? It's really hard for only one to quit. Misery loves company!
BTW... remember that part of smoking is an ORAL habit. So keep your mouth busy.

CLAYTON my LOVE!!!!
Yes!!! Hubby and I both quit together. We've tried quitting independently of one another and that's just a train wreck waiting to happen. However, right now he is braving temptation w/ his buddy in the garage who smokes and I don't DARE go out there!
The oral part is HUGE for me.

Sunflower seeds really have helped me the most. They keep the mouth busy and give me that hand-to-mouth satisfaction I want.
I feel so, so, so naughty after telling you all that.

Don't stop, ((((Mal))))!!!!

It's one of the hardest things to do EVER. You've made a good start, and that's the hardest part. If your MIND is set to do this, you can!
I stopped smoking cigs in 1993. I weened myself during each day. No morning one, then no after lunch one, then no on the afternoon break, then none on the way home. That night time one or with drankin' was the worst.

But I did it. Haven't had one since.
I picked up cloves a few years later, like one would have a pipe or cigar. Then that became a little more.
With E moving here, I haven't had one in more than a year, and don't have the urge.
GOOD LUCK!

We sorta use that, but the phone version. We actually got our nicotine patches for free through a program that Colorado has. The patch really helps a LOT. Although, I have dreams like "A Clockwork Orange" every night if I forget to take it off before bedtime.

Thanks Penny. I'm not sure I'll be drankin' any time soon, or I'll have to find a completely different drink to enjoy that I don't associate with chain smoking. I think my Cuba Libres might be a thing of the past, at least for a while.
We've tried before with limited success, but I guess I finally feel like it's actually time. My throat and chest have ached for weeks and just a week and a half without smokes, I'm already feeling better.

I quit in 1994, haven't had nicotine since, not once

The urge for a cigarette will pass, whether you smoke one or not...

I totally forgot! I gave up Pepsi at the time, cause that's what I had ALL the time when I smoked - and then wine.
I never gave up the wine, though.

But since I only drank that at home, and lived in a dinky apartment with no patio, it was easy NOT to do. Besides, it was a Christmas gift to Cameron that year that I quit.

Good job!!!
The patch makes the urges much more bearable to resist! I kinda press it harder into my arm when I'm having a really hard time.

I know that doesn't
really do anything, but it makes me feel better.

I drink Pepsi like most people drink water, and that hasn't really made it hard to not smoke. I'm afraid to drink anything with alcohol, though. I'm just gonna go without for a while.

I quit for a good 2 years then during a very heated "arguement" with the wife I went back to smoking

I actually left the house drove to the local wawa and picked up my favorite brand, what a dummy I was(am) Now I quit for a few days and bam I smoke for a few months...

Never smoked, so I have no experience to offer, but I wanted to say hang in there! You can do it!
My father-in-law has smoked the majority of his life....since he was about 12. Now, at age 59, he has emphysema.....he's on oxygen most of the time now. But....he still smokes.

He has tried SO hard to quit and just can't. He's also a recovering alcoholic--went sober in 1995 and hasn't had a drink since then. So I think that has something to do with it....he gave up one addiction, so is hanging on tight to the other one, though it is killing him. It is so hard to see him hooked up to his oxygen yet still smoking a cigarette.
I've also had two great-uncles die from throat cancer after a life of smoking. And my aunt died of lung cancer 6 years ago--she didn't smoke....but her husband did.
You are saving yourself from possible future of what my FIL is going through....or what my uncles went through.
Good luck!!!

Ohhhh, I hear ya. Second to drinking, an argument w/ hubby or frustration with the kids is the reason I've broken down in the past and picked it up again.
We've been through cycles of start/stop/start/stop/start/stop for a few years now.
I just think I've finally reached the limit of spending money on it, you can't smoke inside in any public places CO anymore, and I've seen my mother pretty much wither into nothing because of cigarettes. She's 64, but probably looks 74.

Thank you thank you thank you.
Of all the crazy stuff I've done in my life, starting smoking is the one think I wish I had never done (although, in a round about way, I never would have met my husband had I not been a smoker).
My mom is on the same path as your uncle, although she usually tries to remember to turn off the oxygen tank before she lights up.

Another way to look at it ....think of it as a gift to your kids. They need you to be around for a long time.....they need a healthy mom and dad.

at my weakest moments, I'd put on another patch, when I thought I just could not go on without a cigarette, figured it could no be as bad a smoking a cigarette....I'd get that nicotine rush and the intense urge for nicotine would pass...
