ROVE: BUSH'S FIRST VETO WOULD BE STEM-CELL BILL
President Bush likely will cast the first veto of his presidency if the Senate, as expected, passes legislation to expand federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research, White House aide Karl Rove said Monday.
"The president is emphatic about this," Rove said in a meeting with the editorial board of The DENVER POST.
The U.S. House of Representatives has already passed the legislation, co-sponsored by Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., and Rep. Mike Castle, R-Del. If the Senate approves the bill this month it would go to the president's desk.
"It is something we would, frankly, like to avoid," Rove said

Legislation can't stop progress - only delay it. In another generation, it'll be here. Alas, in the meantime, thousands (millions?) continue to suffer and die...ph4ever wrote:which is so freaking pathetic. Just in the past few weeks I saw a story about lab rats with broken backs who had been treated with stem cells walk again.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after
Every now and then...

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

Any veto will likely be overturned... even in a GOP Congress!
What does this say about the RELEVANCE of this pathetic "leader" we've got?
Vote out the conservative fools that backed this "worst-ever" presidency this November.
Positive change on SO MANY fronts can be here sooner than you think...
....one more thing, my fellow BNer's & Parrotheads... just think, WWJD?
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!

exactly. Kinda like those countries that said, "the New World? Nahhh. The world is flat"AlbatrossFlyer wrote:what's pathetic is the research is happening, just not in the US....
They're on the ashheap of history. And thanks to Shrub, and his Religious-Right backers, we are heading there faster than most "non-believers" are heading for hell..

proof that electing a C-minus student President is probably a bad idea...NYCPORT wrote:I dare any of his right wing flunkies to justify this. One more notch in the holster for this clown going down as one of the worst Presidents in history.

Unfortunately, that probably won't even matter. The bill passed the House 238-194. It would take 290 votes (two-thirds of the House) to override. So, even if the bill passes the Senate with a veto-proof majority, at least 26 House members would have to switch their votes to override. That's not gonna happen--especially not in an election year.12vmanRick wrote:ditto!!Crazy Navy Flyer wrote:I hope the Senate has enough votes to override the veto.

First thing... when you kill an embryo, you've killed an unborn child.
Second... Bush came out against stem cell funding a long time ago. What surprises you about this veto threat? At least he's not a "finger-in-the-wind" policitian. He has principles and sticks to them. A long time ago in a country not so far away, they called that being honorable.
Third... When Harry S. Truman left office fifty years ago, he was largely considered a failed president, in fact one of the worst in our history. Hindsight and history are 20/20, though, and now his legacy is being embraced by both Democrats and Republicans.
If we win the war on terror, I wouldn't be surprised to see George W. receiving similar accolades about fifty years from now.
