Pascagoula run or Run to Pascagoula.

Post by ragtopW »

:D

Ok so I am thinking of making a trip
next year. I have found out that if I want to go to Stars Fell on Alabama
for me the best airport is New Orleans.
I am thinking of taking a day or two extra and traveling
some. Flying into New Orleans Either Friday or Saturday
and hanging there for a few days.
Then Making the Pascagoula Run..or the Run to Pascagoula
and then running over to.. the Flora-Bama
Can I do this in a day??
start out say Wed. and drive?maybe dinner at the Flora-Bama?
Also do I need a Car in the Big Easy??

any tips??
this is not set into stone but I am doing the leg work to see if it's possible.

It's an easy drive from NO to Pascagoula > Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Some people never find it, some only pretend
But me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

3.5 hour drive (normally) from NOLA to Gulf Shores. Once you get on I-10, just roll until you get over the Bay and see the Highway 59 interchange. Head south, take the Foley Expressway.. Hang a left when you get to the water, and look for the Island House.

Duuuuuuude... you are gonna love L.A. :)

I don't know about post-Katrina, but pre-Katrina, you couldn't miss them in the French Quarter... of course, I didn't partake, but they're there

They're still there- it's not as wild as it used to be, but the strip clubs are still going strong.

You do not need a car in the Quarter.

We stayed at the Baronne Plaza the first 2 nights- it's in a good location (2 blocks off the Quarter, one off Bourbon), and was reasonably priced by French Quarter prices ($150ish per night on a weekend), then we moved to the Ambassador- it's a few blocks farther out of the Quarter in the Warehouse District (by Harrah's), but I think it was like 60 bucks per night (it's expensive on weekends, cheap Sun-Thurs), and they upgraded us to a mini suite on the front where we had floor to ceiling windows (and 20 foot ceilings).

The Baronne Plaza is worth the price because of the location, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it- it's on the level of a Motel 6 with nicer common areas. I love the Ambassador (and it's just down the street from Mother's- I might need a few minutes while I think about that po boy!!), but it is a much, much longer walk from the Quarter.

If you go, you have to hit the Chart Room- it felt like home! And go to K-Paul's, too- it's soooo freaking incredible!!

Also, avoid the Chatres House- it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had (bad food- frozen pre breaded deep fried junk- I could've purchased better at WalMart), horrible service (the waitress refused to take orders for their signature martinis because the bartender was too busy), and it was expensive for what it was.

NOLA French Quarter absolutely do not use a vehicle... the roads are extremely narrow.... Enjoy yourself down there (We were there for New Years 05... yea that was a blast!) There is a drink called a Hurricane (it will kick your arse if you don't prepare ahead of time... its like a wapatooli mix)... I don't know about the hotel situation in the FQ... I'd stay right there if you can.

Its been stated before I-10 is the main E-W corridor from TX to FL... it is real easy to find Pascagoula... (when you see the Biloxi/Keesler AFB signs) its about 15-20 mins after those signs (if that)...

Enjoy your stay. From Pascagoula hop back on to I-10 to Mobile and then head to Florabama... stop at Lulu's... (Jimmy's Sister's restaurant in Florabama)

that if I just shuttled from the Airport.. then back to pick up the car for the drive.. and I was also finding that some of the Hotels
charge for parking. just trying to save some $$$

I think the taxi was like $26+tip from the Quarter, and I can't remember how much parking is- obviously it depends on where you park, but I think it was in the $15/day range with no in/out privileges, and I think every hotel even close to the Quarter charges extra- it's cheaper and easier to just cab it.

Thanks I was thinking paying for a car... AND parking that isn't
going to move for 4-5 days was not too bright

Plus it's kind of hard to get a DUI if you have nothing to D. :D :D :D :D
