If I lived closer to work I'd ride my mountain bike. There's a decent-sized commuter crowd around here.

I actually have turned into a Bike commuter this summer.

Of course it helps that I live less than 2 miles from work.

I'd commute by bike or on foot if I were close enough.

And I'd take public transportation if it were available.

But I drive....

Gas prices are killin' me. 42 mile round trip commute 5 days a week.
Throw in weekend driving and it's about $40.00 or more a week.

That's $160.00 a month :o
And $1920.00 a year :o

FOR ONE CAR!!!:o :o :o

add in car # 2 and

There. I vented. Why don't I feel better?

And don't give me that "bottled water and beer cost more per gallon" crap.

I need my beer.

I've given it some serious thought. It's about 20 miles 1way for me. There's a decent route and I've done 20 miles with the kids on weekends, but I'd need a shower when I got to work.

69 cents for a can of baked beans, not too expensive for gas....

8)

But I don't worry myself about it, there ain't much I can do about it.
I just put gas in and go. Of course I don't drive as far or as much as I used to. That's about all I can do. :-?

I drive a LOT, usually 1.5-2 tanks of gas a week, at about $60 per tank.

The lovely wife and I were talking last night, I think it would be cheaper to get a small little 4 banger POS beater car to add to the mix. I'm thinking 1st or 2nd gen miata? *grin* I'm sure she's thinking 1980 VW Rabbit Diesel.

No hatred. Just giving gas whining its own thread.

I have started riding my bike to work... it is a very short drive but most of it is going 50+ mph, so I am sure taking 2 more minutes to ride my bike saves a little bit of gas!

Our town is divided by US Route 6, a pretty busy road... so if I have to go anywhere on my side of Rt. 6, I ride instead of drive.

Terrain to hilly and drivers too inconsiderate to ride a bike 12 miles one way where I live. I can't drive any less than I do now, only to and from work. If I need anything at a store I get it on the way to or on the way home from work.

It really sux that a bunch of pre-historic spinach-chinned Fred Flinstone wannabes can alter our lifestyle anytime they have the urge.

There are many issues that are causing the change in oil prices, and the most significant do not include pre-historic spinach-chinned Fred Flinstone wannabes. The main cause is probably due to the fact that oil is one of the few products that is nearly perfectly inelastic.

I've been driving to work for the last 6 years. Due mostly to odd work hours.

Today I took the train and will continue to do so.

Nonsense.
If oil were even nearly a perfectly inelastic product, demand would not go down as price increases. It is quite apparent that as price goes up, people are finding ways to use less, as would be expected by basic economic theory.
