Should we go penny-less

No, not THAT

penny, the real coin:

It seems that the penny is costing more to manufacture than it is worth. After 116,000+ votes it is tied at 50-50. So what does the BN population think?
Personally, I think if we get rid of the penny EVERY cost increase, from gas to groceries to taxes will have to jump 5 cents each time. I shudder to think about that.

As long as no one tampers with Angel Penny, sure! We'll do it in Canada, too!

Well, this will give some people multiple ways to be "centsless".

I think we should just get rid of "money" all together....it is dirty and harder to keep track of...I think everything should be on a card from a checking account or something or a microchip or something of the sort... I am sure there are tons of drawbacks to it, but ultimately I think it will come to that someday...

It's just a matter of time... I think it will happen once they find a way to wipe out identity theft.

We got rid of them years ago and a GREAT thing ....
Everything is still priced at 1.48 or 1.99 etc (well not everything is that price - you know what I mean!) ...
At the grocery store - it is either rounded up or down in the final tally.
Petrol is at 1.38 a litre here - the final price is rounded up or down .....
It really makes little or NO difference at all - less coins ....... good thing - seeing we have 1.00 and 2.00 coins and our smallest note is a 5.00 - we got enough coins .. so our smallest coin is a 5c.

I think we should get rid of it. It is ACTUALLY costing the government more money to produce a penny. I heard that it costs 1.48 cents to produce 1 penny (so the government is losing money here) where about a couple of years ago, it used to cost about .98 cents to produce a penny.

no. it would just end up in a way to drive profit up incrementally without accountability. And there wouldn't be any rounding prices down like they do in Australia.
all they need to do is find a slightly-cheaper alloy, it's not like pennies are solid copper anyway.

At the risk of sounding too biblical, getting rid of cash signals the sign of the end of the world, a cashless society would NOT be a good thing. Also the nickel costs .056 to produce.

My keets would be really disappointed if I didn't empty the change from my pockets into thier piggys, including those pennies.

Those pennies and nickels are also great for decieving the younger one, the older one happens to be quite efficent in math

and what about the excitement you get when you find a heads up penny on the ground....."Find a penny pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck"

I liked being in Australia with no pennies. It all balances out; sometimes it rounds up and other times it rounds down.

Just as long as I get to stick around, I don't have a strong feeling one way or the other.

Does seem silly to make something that costs more than it's worth, however.
