My choir director: a bigot ?

Post by citcat »

I am so riled up I have to ask ya'll what I should do.
Our preacher has been out the last two Sundays for "Presbyterian School" since he was a Baptist preacher and we hired him, he had to do this just for learning purposes. The Presbyterian college sent a well-respected professor, Biblical scholar (she's also the chaplain to replace him these past two Sundays. She did a wonderful job, was very interesting. Our choir director didn't come to church last Sunday because he doesn't approve of WOMEN preachers. He GETS PAID to do this job, and didn't do his job because of his prejudice. This guy is in his thirties, ought to know better. I have to go to choir practice on Wednesday and I am afraid I may take his tiny head off. But then I think, "no, I'll just let it pass". Then I'll get all riled up again.
I want to tell him "oh gosh, I'm a woman, should I even be in the choir?" :x or "Did you really shirk your job because of your PREJUDICE?" or "Did you have a problem with your mother while growing up to cause you to be THIS FREAKIN' STUPID?"

But then, he ain't the brightest bulb in the pack, so I think I should let it go, maybe inform him gently and slowly about the facts of life in the 21st century. ????? What are some things I could say to get my disappointment across? My hubby was so incensed when he heard this, he thinks the church shouldn't pay him for last Sunday (dock his pay) !!!!!!

I know my anger isn't very Christian, but GAH !!!

I could call him a misogynist to his face, but he wouldn't know what that was !

I think you might have some educating to do. Maybe if ALL the women stayed home next time he preached . . .?

the devil comes to you in many shapes in forms to try to steer you from you path towards God, including choir directors and preachers.

my suggeston, pray for him, ignore his bigotry and continue to go to church and enjoy the Lord's teachings. Don't let the devil use this choir director to lead you to stray.

If you can't get past his bigotry - aren't there other churches in your area?

No no, the preacher is COOL !! WAY COOL !! he's the preacher that marries people at Graceland (Elvis's). It's the choir director that did this. :x

What if the entire choir didn't show up because they knew he was going to be directing?

Honestly, I would not be a church member anywhere that thought that sort of behavior was acceptable. I would go to the new pastor and complain- there is almost no way you and your husband are the only ones who are upset.

instead of ragging on the choir director, this sounds like an issue you should take the church's governing board....

Yeah, but I really love the preacher and the people. This guy isn't really evil, but he sure is seeming to be more Baptist than Cumberland Presbyterian !
JUST KIDDING ! But Presbyterian churches I've been to really appreciate women in the clergy.

OMG I haven't heard Cumberland Presbyterian in years!!! My great grandfather was a Cumberland Presbyterian minister.

Maybe when te minister comes back you can drop a bug in his ear and he can counsel the choir director

or better yet just get a new choir director

ugghhh...sorry that he is so closed minded.

I got into an arguement with my uncle yesterday. He believes that the King james Version of the bible is the only acceptable one to read...all the other versions are wrong and blasphemous....

Some people do not believe in women holding a position of teaching over men. This might be his reason, I'm not sure without knowing all the facts. It also could be a fact that it was the way he was raised.

Like I said I'm not making excuses, just giving a option or two.

:o

It was good enough for Jesus and the disciples, it should be good enough for us today

The guy has issues relating to and more importantly submitting to authority/structure. Unless he "sees the light" he'll always think less of women in the church. It's his loss and he's WAY out of line.

Sing your heart out :D You get a chance to practice that part about loving unconditionaly
