pretty much every sunblock has the same basic ingredients, so read the labels and compare and experiment. walgreens still sells plain ol zinc oxide.
That brings back high school memories of summers at Lake Powell with zinc noses.
Every "cool" life guard had the zinc thing going
Bert's Bees has a lip balm for lifeguards. Since I spend a lot of time in the sun I thought that would be perfect for me. So I bought some and went to the airport to pick up my boss. I noticed A LOT of people were staring at me, and I thought to my self, "TR, you must have hit another home run with the new Hawaiian shirt!" My boss gretts me with, "Hey, you have purple lips.(the zinc oxide in the lip balm is a purple tint) Did you buy some of that Bert's Bees stuff?"
I'm one of those lucky people blessed with both fair and sensitive skin. As stated you want a sunscreen that is PABA free. Believe it or not the best one I have found w/o irritating my skin is NO AD. It's the generic brand sold everywhere, Walgreen's, Wal Mart, CVS etc. The best part is that it is usually the cheapest too. I was happy to find one in a spray bottle this past weekend.

I like other Bert's Bees products but that one is the worst. Not only was it purple, but the texture was awful and it didn't stay on worth a darn.

I love Bullfrog gel. That being said, I think I'd stay away from gel for the little guy. It has alcohol in it and will sting the heck out of damaged skin....

bullfrog is very good.
You might try Neutragena's new product. It got a very good review and derm folks rate it highly. This is because right now it's practically the only product in the US that covers both UVA and UVB. It also feels very nice, not greasy. Not sure how well it stays on.
Navy Seals are Cooler then Pirates You Can Dream Anyway, There's always next year!!!
Hey BB..pretty much the same thing has been going on with my son. I use Coppertone clear spray which works fine when we are at a pool. When we were at the lake, my mother-in-law used a lotion and he broke out horribly. I took him to the dr. and he had to use a steriod to clear up. This happened both times we used a lotion block on him. Maybe it is something in the lotion. The Coppertone spray is PABA free, btw.
I am glad you brought up this topic! Lots of good info people have left here, esp. the purple lip balm!

Nothin' better than asking a bunch of PHeads about spending time in the sun.
I think our plan for Mexico, since we'll spend almost all our time outdoors near water and in the sun, we'll lotion up really good a few times a day and touch up with the spray 1-2 times an hour.
When I was there last time, we were diligent about sunscreen lotion every 2 hours and still got crispy fried. I just don't want the kiddos to have to deal with bad sunburns.
