Reefdiver,
my ttol name is paul-- not very imaginative but it works for me. That is really one of the best web sites, especially for the BVI that I have ever run across. So much accurate, useful information so fast!!
We're making our maiden voyage to the Bomba Shack AND a full moon party this November. We actually kinda planned the BVI part of the trip around the full moon party so I hope it's as good as everyone says it is.
Bubba Phan,
Biras Creek is a bit "fancy" but only for dinner. However, I'm about the most casual guy you'll ever meet and I didn't mind exchanging the Teva's for boat shoes and the t-shirt for a polo (Once I pass Miami, I don't give up my shorts for anyone!!) because the place is SOOO beautiful and peaceful. it TOTALLY depends what you are looking for in a vacation though.

McGee, watch out for the mushroom tea at Bomba Shack..... I hear it packs a wallop !!!
Watch out for Bomba too.....if you think Capt. Tony down in Key West is a dirty old man...you ain't seen nuttin yet !!!
Better make sure to stand between him and your wife at all times !!
When we were there last October, there was a full moon party going on one night. I was sooooo tempted to check it out. Only problem was I had my wife and daughter with me. Didnt want to leave the daughter by herself at the villa, and I didnt want to go alone and try driving up and over the mountain after having a few......so hopefully next trip there I will get to experience one. Check out The Callwood Distillery if you get the chance. It's just down the road from Bombas.....not really a lot to see, but it's still pretty cool since they've been makin rum there for the last 200 years, and they still do it like they did 200 years ago. Lots of cool things to do and see in the BVI's, if you have any questions just ask. BTW........did you see the thread over at TTOL about the woman who went into Foxy's and tried to steal one of the chairs? I guess the chair has something to do with Chesney's song Big Blue Chair (or whatever it's called). She almost got away with it. Thats one of the reasons why people there don't really love Chesney. Too many people starting to hit The BVI's because of his songs. At least JB knows how to keep a secret. Here's a pic of my daughter in front of Callwood Dist holding one of my "treasures" that I had to bring back with me.

I hear the tea is free but you have to pay $10 for the cup! Either my wife or I will try the tea but not both----one of us has to stay sober enough to find a taxi!Reefdiver wrote:McGee, watch out for the mushroom tea at Bomba Shack..... I hear it packs a wallop !!! :
Callwood is on the agenda, if for nothing else then to take a few pictures of the place. I have a friend who has an older bottle of the stuff (from the early 80's) but the funny thing is it's a Listerine Bottle----I guess back in the day they packaged the stuff in whatever they could find!

A couple years ago anyway, you used to be able to take a great day sail out of Soper's on Kuralu. (he has a website, I think his name was Robin) And he DOESN"T take any cruise ship people, so you got to be staying somewhere near there. Snorkeling, food, Green Cay, a good spinnaker run or two, White Bay, and Foxy's... he's a friend of Mr. Callwood. You 'd have to find his website and see if he's still doing it.
Ferry goes from St. John to Soper's, then from Soper's to Jost. Beef Island Tortola Airport is a long way from Soper's but it is a better airport and less crowded than St. Thomas.

Wow, such good info!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I figured I would find travelers of like mind here. Reefdiver, I think we are on the same wavelength in regard to the concept of "paradise"!McGee wrote:Reefdiver,

McGee, I heard about the party at Bomba's. Sounds too interesting to stay away, doesn't it? When I saw a picture of the sign that is posted there explaining the Full Moon Party, I thought the the moon phase would definitely have to be considered when scheduling one's trip. It would be interesting to see if there is a dirty old man on this earth that I can't handle, if nothing else!
The BVIs sound just incredible! Oh, I signed up on traveltalk last night.....just call me palmtreephan. Thanks again, y'all!!

Did you have a chance to check out the pics that AF posted in the second link he posted on the previous page? There are some really good ones of the distillery along with some excellent underwater shots taken with a little disposable camera.McGee wrote: Callwood is on the agenda, if for nothing else then to take a few pictures of the place. Thanks so much for the tip!Missing B'dos wrote:A couple years ago anyway, you used to be able to take a great day sail out of Soper's on Kuralu. My wife and I honeymooned on Peter Island and St John. We absolutely fell in love with the islands. Heading back down to the BVI's the first week of Decemeber to celebrate our 3 year anny. Hitting Sandcastle on Jost for 4 nights and Biras creek on Virgin Gorda for 3. I have heard so many great things about Jost and can not wait to get down there!

If you are an experienced boater (power or sail), you can easily rent/charter a boat and make the quick trip over to JVD. No need for GPS, everything is pretty much line of site...a simple map will do!
I spent a couple of years zipping around the USVI and BVI in a 28 ft. pleasure cruiser while living in STT, but on trips back have had a blast renting a center console power boat to get around.
You can also charter a captained day sail to JVD...and the ferry is a good option if you prefer.

Paradise is living two years on Barbados, and travelling all over the islan's. Sadness is not living on Barbados anymore... miss it every day.
Afternoon Golfer, my Jimmy is a Husky, too. MS 1977
We are going to try to make do with Two Harbors, Catalina, this weekend. Anybody know how the Saturday night jump up at the Harbor Lights there is?
Make sure when in Sopers that you get your Pusser's rum cup with the sailors' toasts on it... like a BIG metal mug and holds a goodly sized drink. Like, '2 of sour, 4 of sweet, 6 of rum, and 8 of neat [H2O], plus bitters', about twice the usual rum punch. Sailors can put a lot of this away.
