And I JUST made a picture of Cane Garden Bay with the tire swing the background on my laptop....O well... :-(
I'm glad we're visiting The Sandcastle/Soggy Dollar from Monday-Wednesday during the off-season--I heard it's MUCH quieter then! We went there on a Saturday this past April, and although there were some people there, it was by no means packed. I am so excited about the Mongoose--the owner/manager Sandra seems really sweet!
I'm psyched to see Quito Rymer on Tortola; has anyone heard him play live?

Hubby and I decided we couldn't wait until next December to head down to BVI so we just booked a trip last night to Tortola in six weeks. We decided on staying at Lighthouse Villas on Cane Garden Bay. Mongoose and Myett's were in the running too as I have heard lots of good stuff about them. We are definitely taking day trips over to Anegada and Jost....we may even book at Sandcastle in person for our anniversary trip next year.

I hope everyone that is heading that way has a great time!

FYI i believe Bomba's has live music on sun and wed nights, otherwise it is quiet. You have to have his punch, full moon or not. If you catch it on the right day it is"magical" the jolly roger on Tortola's west end makes a real nice PK as well try the honor beach bar on the beach just past long bay heading west, used to be Bob's, but I believ he passed away a few years back. if on STJ at all, sundays at skinny legs, coral bay, a must if you need to see your football team, also on STJ, if you are in Maho bay at all, try the maho bay campground rest great food. awesome view, happy hour 430 to 530 we actually stayed there, at harmony. BVI USVI awesome place :D

Just back from 8 days at Sandcastle and Biras. Great time. Booked Sandcastle already for next year. Biras was beautiful but not really our speed.

yup... it's worth the effort to see him. don't bother buying his CDs though, the sound quality is terrible.

Back to report that we had an AMAZING time!!! If you're ever on Jost on a Thursday, be sure to hit Ivan's BBQ. It was a blast...and Seddy & Raquel at One Love are two of the coolest people to have ever met. Can't wait to go back!!

Reefdiver wrote:Bubba phan, you will absolutely LOVE The BVI's. I was there last fall, and in my mind, they are the perfect "get away from it all" destinations. It's really pretty easy to get from one island to the next if you're based out of Tortola. The ferry to Jost leaves out of Sopers Hole, and the one to Virgin Gorda leaves from the dock in Roadtown. I believe there's one from Sopers to VG also, but you'd have to make a stop in Roadtown first. Roadtown can get a little busy around 5 o'clockish......but it's really not that bad. We stayed near the West End at Fort Recovery Villas, and it doesnt take that long to drive into Roadtown from there. Sopers was about a 5 minute drive. If you're on that end of the island you have to stop at The Jolly Roger. Phantastic place for eats and drinks. Very friendly staff and reasonable prices. The owner (I forget his name) told me that Jimmy has been there and that either Mac or Fingers has also visited there. Can't remember which one he said. If I were you, I'd definately make it a point to hit VG for a day. Go early if you can, and when the cruise ship peeps start to infiltrate The Baths, head over to Devils Bay. It's a cool hike over, around, and through HUGE rock formations. The cruisers either don't know about it, or are too intimidated to take the hike. You will probably have that area to yourself when The Baths start to get crowded. If you have the whole day to spend there, just wait out the cruiser's. They all leave after about 2 hours. The beaches on Tortola are very beautiful as well. Cane Garden Bay, Brewers Bay..etc. You can usually have a beach all to yourself there too. I think we shared the beach with maybe 6 or 7 other people most times. Brewers is especially isolated, and I remember it was us, and 2 others there one day. Thats truely paradise in my own humble opinion. Whatever BVI island you decide to stay on will not disappoint you. Have fun and take lots of pics. Oh, and watch out driving on Tortola.......some of those people are CRAZY DRIVERS. Oh, someone mentioned the tire swing at Cane Garden Bay....this is me climbing it. The wife took this pic without me knowing.Image
My picture is the same....but not you in it. Beautiful beaches is an understatement.

I know I am resurrecting an old thread here, but does anyone have recommendations on where to stay on Jost besides Sandcastle? I know there isnt much there anyways, but looking for some first hand recommendations if you stayed somewhere else. Thanks. :D

I've been to the BVI three times, but always on a sailing vacation so we've stayed on board the yacht. Each time we did visit Jost Van Dyke and I agree it is a beautiful island like all in the BVI. Here's the official BVI tourism site that should provide you with some additional information sources as you plan your trip: http://www.bvitourism.com/

Most of our friends that go to the BVI and stay "on land" seem to favor the principal island of Tortola. More things to do & see there, but regardless of where you stay try to arrange for a boat ride and experience the other islands as well. Peter Island, for example, is a resort that encompasses the whole island. Their web site is http://www.peterisland.com/

Have a great trip!

Check out the Pink House, White Bay Villas, Ivan's Campground, and I think Gertrude has some rooms she rents. My wife and I have been to Jost the past 2 years but have only stayed at Sandcastle.
