Good point. Going on 4 months on this work assignment in the USVI, and I still can't get over how blue and clear the waters of the Caribbean are. Simply stunning.

After reading the posts here, my fiance is slowy starting to realize that the Caribbean will be the better choice...besides, we watch Magnum, p.i. reruns at night and she can see enough of Hawaii there :D :D

Our child age 24 who has been to Hawaii extended 2 x and to Barbados when Mums and Dad lived there 5 x says she would pick the Caribbean any day, much nicer beaches, more to do and of course she liked the 18 year old legal thing, she was 20 when we moved south, etc. But she likes lying on the beach, snorkeling and boogie boarding better than rough coral snorkeling and hard board surfing, although she also jet skied and para sailed in Hawaii, she just liked the Caribbean more. But you might not care to take advice from a 24 year old kid. A very well travelled one. She also liked the beaches in Australia better than Hawaii, and she liked Sanibel when she was a teen. So that gives you something to compare.

It's all in what you want....

If you want an all-inclusive, you're probably going to be happier with the Caribbean.

The flight to Hawaii is definitely longer and more taxing.

But on the other hand, if you know how, you can spend an hour or an afternoon in the tidal pool behind the estate where Magnum PI was filmed, because all of the beaches in Hawaii are free.

I'd pick Hawaii, but that's just me. :)

Not to be racist or anything but it is full of Asian people which makes for some headaches when you are a minority. It is beautiful for the most part but I really don't think its worth the money (and I was there on the company dime).

Key West in May is pretty dang hot but otherwise awesome.

PS: Congrats!
Ouch.... That sure sounds racist.... :-?

Yes, caucasians are a minority in Hawaii. If that bothers you, you probably shouldn't plan to spend much time there...

I love Hawaii, and the culture is a huge part of the reason why.

It still may not be the choice for this particular honeymoon, but I wouldn't 'dis it just because it's "full of Asian people"..... (not one of whom I've ever had a problem with in many trips out there...)

Our island only had two or three all-inclusives, patronized almost exclusively by Brits. They are not as common in the south Caribbean. Also no chain hotels, although they have since opened a Hilton there. Also many of the islands we travelled to are more primitive or simpler, like St. Vincent, Dominica, Bequia, etc., so you aren't going to get the big St. Thomas like resorts. These are islands where people still milk goats and do their laundryin the rivers. Some friends who used to live in California honey-mooned at Firefly on Mustique in the Grenadines and absolutely loved it. No fast food either, but really friendly people, good music, great beaches, good rum and beer and good food. It's different.

SGH I agree with you, that statement sounds very racist.

Hawaii is beautiful and different, one of my favorite places on this planet, hands down.

The Caribbean ... the beaches are far better ... the water is far bluer, and the prices are far cheaper. By the way I'm leaving for Maui tomorrow. It's a family thing, and it's closer. If not for that, I'd be heading for the BVI's.

Apologies to both of you if you were offended. It was meant to be more of a "heads up" than anything else. I have two very good friends that are Asian and don't have a problem at all with Asians but a lot of people that go to Hawaii come back and say something about the population there so I thought I'd point it out. Its just not something that many tourists expect in a US state.

Apology accepted. Obviously we read something into other than what you meant to say.
