I, too, decided I didn't like how I looked and was going to do something about it. Not in a hurry, but do something about it over the next 18 months or so. (My plans are to be in Maui by November 2007 . . . for a 6 month sabbatical and I need to be fit.)

What I've decided is to have one day when I can eat what I want.

That day was yesterday. I had a burger. And a Coke.

Neither tasted that good. :o Go figure.

The Lay's potato chips, however, were a completely different story!

You go, Mal! :D :D :D
Way to go, ETP. I won't let myself have free days for a while. Gotta feel like I can control what I eat ('cause I really pig out sometimes) before I go there. I envy people who can have free days though.

i've noticed pop and burgers and mcfries are what i crave when i'm trying to eat well, but when i do finally have them, they never taste as good as i had imagined.

I'm just banking on the fact that I just posted this for God and everybody to see, so I better be thinner by the next time I see any of y'all or else you'll think I'm a failure and that simply will not do.
Good luck Mal, and I really do mean that. You've got 40 days!!

I started using my rowing machine back in Jaunary. Every-other-day....that didn't last too long. I'm still disappointed with me.
You won't even recognize me.

Hang in there dude. I'm starting with walking because it's the only thing I can trust myself to stick with right now.

On my free day, I always eat Cape Cod tater chips. YUMMMM! Betcha can't eat just one.

No alcohol is the biggest boost in keeping weight down for me.
it's still sucky not smoking, but it doesn't sound appetizing at all to have a cigarette. i just need to keep my mouth busy.

i'm really not a big drinker, so alcohol isn't where i slip. i like junk food. a lot.

Yeah, Mal. This was a good lesson. Just not as good as I imagined, so I can go on to something else to crave. :D

I think my problem with my few drinks is that I tend to eat more when I drink.

Eat often...

Good luck Mal.

I think it would be easier for me to just gain weight until I'm big enough to qualify for gastric bypass rather than lose it naturally

Hubby and I have considered that. 'Til we met two people at two completely unrelated functions (a man and a woman) who damn near died from gastric bypass.

I'll pass, thanks.

OMG! Someone on my SouthBeach Yahoo group admitted to doing that. Then something happened and their insurance changed and would no longer cover the surgery. What a mess!!

Good luck! Controlling eating habits for some of us is truly mind over matter. You really have to want it.
SouthBeach did it for me. I have not had a Pepsi in 14 months and I used to drink 1 to 3 everyday. I kinda fell off the wagon starting at about Easter and I find that more sugar is creeping into my diet - mostly in the form of ice cream and booze so I need to get t a gripe myself. So far my weight in stable but I don't want to head down that slippery slope again that's for sure.

Get yourself down to JD's Bait Shop (yes, it's a bar), I believe it's down on Arapahoe just east of I-25; and get their "Bobbers" (it's been several years since I was there, so I'm assuming a. the place is still there and b. they're still on the menu). They're jalepeno poppers, wrapped in bacon. Get yourself an order or two, and wash it down with your favorite adult beverage.

Yay!!!

A fellow Pepsi junkie!!!

When I fell off the SB wagon, it's taken about 9 months to gain all the weight back and I stayed stable for about 3 months.

Former junkie in this case :-)
I always used to say if offered a Coke I would not waste the sugar and calories and then I would wait until I could find a Pepsi. Of course an RC Cola is not bad in a pinch!

The hardest thing we had to break here was our coke addiction. I swear it was worst then when I quit smoking. Now it doesn't taste good at all to me.

This is me, not saying anything. After waiting two hours, I just couldn't hold it in anymore.

Mallory, you doll. Take it from me, controlling your sugar before your pre-diabetes turns to the real thing is what you WANT to do. As I remind myself everytime I see something that I once would have eaten without a second thought, "Kidney failure, blindness, amputation."
Sy is right; Splenda makes most baked things taste the same! Whole grains are the kinds of carbs that keep you full but help your weight loss.

I love you, honey.
