"Old" as in, "I know where I was when they walked on the moon-old", or "OLD" as in, "Larry and I fended off dinosaurs on our way to the school-cave-OLD"? :D

well I got thru the day and met my goals, impressive. I do work best under pressure. I"ve done string writing for newspapers and always had a deadline. I could do this work easily. I could do all of this even at the last minute.

Good Job!

When I am right on deadline on a magazine article, that's when I'm usually all over BuffettNews, reading and posting like crazy. Then I come through in a pinch!

In my case is sure helps....I do better when I know I have a certain amount of time to accomplish something.

Come to think of it.....maybe thats why I have a phlocking several times a year..... You should see the list of "TO DO'S" I know have to have finished by 9/22. :)

Of course some of that list is not necessarily my TO DO...but Mr. Top's..... And there lies a problem! However to his credit.... he works better under a deadline as well. 8)
me too

Honestly, I tend to think setting reasonable or small goals helps...it's not so overwhelming that way...and you can cross more stuff off a list, too.

Maybe Herman and Jimmy had something with that "write a page a day" routine. :D

I have a huge problem with this...

When I really want to get something done, I write it on a Post-it note
and stick it inside my front door, and I can't remove til it's done.
I keep it down to no more than 3 at a time, cuz if the "list" appears manageable
it WILL get done faster!

It's not perfect... hell, who is?.... but it's really helped me a lot! :)

Procrastinate while you still can!

And I schedule things- Tomorrow evening we're moving the table in and clearing out the laundry room so we can use the old table for folding clothes. Saturday we're probably going to stucco the bedroom, and bathroom if the bedroom is easy and turns out well.

PLEASE :o

Don't screw up your book by writing on a schedule and setting dead lines. :o :o Ernie Hemingway got up and wrote for a few hours in the AM, went to the bar for rum drinks and then went fishing. He took the time to LIVE LIFE so he could CAPTURE the essence of each and every experience. Ernie touches every sence in his writing and you feel his words. Creativity can not be scheduled or prioritized. Just give yourself some "just OCG" time to let those creative juices flow. And don't forget to drink rum and go fishing

Strongly disagree... I've read many a book on writing, and they say that if you show up to work at a certain time, and don't let yourself get distracted, your muse shows up too. Hemingway had a schedule... get up early each a.m. and write as much as possible before a deadline: noon. Creativity flies out the window and is wasted if you don't schedule, plan and set deadlines. All successful writers/painters/artists are disciplined. :)

I agree. I need goals or I wll get nothing done. This book didn't have a page done until I set some goals. I"m not a taskmaster and if I really want to I can take a day off to hit the beach. But I do need to put some structure into my life.

Great quotes! Thanks, OCG... You're getting me motivated!!!

Here's some more motivation from Dr. Phil's talk to the YMCA National Convention, via a phone call from my hubs:

Successful people:
1- Have a concrete vision of success.
2- Have a written plan for success.
3- Winners do things that losers WON'T do.
4- You've gotta have so much passion for what you are doing that you can't wait to get up and do what you gotta do!

:( Sorry. Didn't mean to jump on you~ I'm sure you meant to not get stressed out or pressured to write and be sure to enjoy your life... It's a hard thing to balance. :)
