I agree, if Auburn wins the West, that will be one hell of a year. Going 12 weeks without a break will be tough, specially in the SEC!!!
I was just looking at the SEC schedule...Bama also goes 12 games straight...
Then UGA is next with 11 games straight.
USC has a nice break right in the middle of the schedule.
Who assigns these "BYES"?
BYES are left up to the ADs or whoever makes the schedule at each school.

Not completely. The conference writes out their schedules for the conference season. All non-conference games are negotiated directly between the schools.

BYES in the SEC must be "bought" or something as Florida
ALWAYS has the weekend before they play UGA off.
All other schools rotate their BYES...something isn't right.

Beginning Sept. 2, ABC Sports will broadcast 12 Saturday night college games under the umbrella title of
ABC Saturday Night College Football.
Kicking off the schedule will be Notre Dame at Georgia Tech followed by Ohio State at Texas on Sept. 9
(remember last season's classic in Columbus, Ohio?) and Nebraska at Southern California on Sept. 16.

Blame TV for not having a bye week. They added the 12th game this year to add an extra week for more revenue. Same as the NFL for adding their bye week only adding a bye helps NFL cutting a bye hurts college. It is so tough to get college age kids up for games 12 weeks in a row. Should be interesting. I cannot see a team playing 12 weeks in a row going undefeated. I love the Thursday night games. The teams playing that game usually have a week off before and a long week before the next game to prepare

You knew after colleges had a couple of seasons of 12-game schedule revenue back in '02 and '03, they would push for that to become the norm. As far as mid-week night games, they might be nice to watch on TV, but as a season ticket holder I can't stand them. My team has two Saturday afternoon home games this year, rest are Thursday & Friday (Friday, wtf?) games. It's frustrating that the school caters to TV money while inconveniencing the fans sitting in the stands.

Friday's should be reserve for HS football games.
I know the SEC decided NOT to play on Friday nights for that reason.

I agree. I am a CFB junkie. I really like the Thursday games, but Tuesday? And the Friday night games seem like a mistake to me also. It does give some schools a chance to be on TV that they wouldn't get w/o the weeknight games. I just don't like it.

For those of us who work at a college (betcha can't guess where I work) I have to say the Thurs. night games are a major PITA. People start coming to tailgate, etc. well before the work day is done and we have to contend with all of that. It's not *as* big a deal for me b/c I stay on campus to go to the game....the faculty members whine about it too. It's just a pain all around. I much prefer to stick to Saturdays.

Colleges will cater to tv because they know the fans will show up anyway regardless of the date or convience. Has any team lost attendance because the game is on Thursday? I am not saying that catering to tv is not true but the colleges can have the best of both when they are both selling out the actual game and are on national television. I like them but I think I might bite the hokies this year. They have 9 days to prepare for miami but only 5 days for Clemson. The hokies are at home against clemson but thats definitely a game to watch out for.

You hit the nail right on the head. And I am so excited to see the Clemson/VT game, though I won't be there. And don't worry--Clemson also only has 5 days to get ready for VT, so maybe that makes it even?
My father-in-law is moving to Dublin, VA (which is right near Blacksburg) so I will have a place to stay in the future when the Tigers and Hokies meet. I can't wait to see a game there sometime.

I would say I have seen Georgia Tech's stadium only 1/2 filled on a Thursday game...but then that's Tech for you...

If I was a Razorback faithful I think I'd be a little angry right about NOW!

. I guess some people just can't help it...
In the storied annals of stupid behavior by college athletes, the story of Arkansas running back Darren McFadden's bar-fight toe injury over the weekend may just rank in the top 10 percentile.
In case you missed it, McFadden, the standout Razorbacks running back who earned All-SEC honors as a freshman last season by running for 1,113 yards and 11 touchdowns, is doubtful for Arkansas' much-anticipated opener against USC after undergoing surgery Saturday to repair a dislocated toe. How did he obtain said toe injury? According to a police report, McFadden was involved in a fight in the parking lot outside a Little Rock club at 4:20 a.m. Saturday. A security guard told the Arkansas-Democrat Gazette that McFadden was kicking at a combatant who allegedly tried to steal his stepbrother's car (someone in the fight apparently left it running) and "his shoe came off and his foot hit the pavement." Adding insult to injury -- literally -- someone else managed to make off with the car

WINNINGEST ACTIVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACHES
(Minimum 10 Years)
1. Phillip Fulmer, Tennessee 123-31 .799
2. Steve Spurrier, South Carolina 142-40-2 .777
3. Bobby Bowden, Florida State 351-102-4 .772
4. Lloyd Carr, Michigan 95-29 .766
5. Joe Paterno, Penn State 343-116-3 .746
Phillip Fulmer is averaging exactly 10 wins per season over the last 8 years, with 5 SEC Eastern Division titles during that span.
Phillip Fulmer and Tom Osborne are the only coaches in college footbell history to lead a team to bowl games in each of their first 13 seasons.
I thought Bobby Bowden was the the all-time winningest coach in major college history.
He has the most wins.
Fulmer has the best winning percentage of ACTIVE coaches.
Bobby Bowden retired?
I know he doesn't move fast, be he is still
active.
I think PIA was right, saying at 1 school...
Bowden is the winningest active coach (
but only including his Stamford, WVU and FSU records)
You misunderstood me a bit. Fulmer has the best winning percentage of active coaches. I was just pointing out that stat does not cover all time. Knute Rockne holds that record. Bowden has the MOST WINS of any D 1 coach all time, different from winning percentage.
Thanks for clearing that up for everybody. I've been out of pocket the last couple of days or I could have explained. You know though, its a no-brainer to me. Would you rather have somebody that has alot of wins over a long period of time or somebody that has a higher winning percentage? You do the math. While you do that, I'll keep rooting on Phil.
GO VOLS!

The winningest active coach is John Gagliardi of St. John's University (Division III). His record of 432-118-11 has a .780 percentage.

Instead of starting a new topic, I thought this would be the most appropriate spot for this.
Veteran sportscaster and "Voice of the Arkansas Razorbacks" was killed in a car crash last night. I had the pleasure of working with him a few times, and must say that he was one of the nicest people on the planet.
He will be sorely missed by the Hog fans this season, and for years to come. Good thoughts, prayers and phin power to his family.
Sail on Paul.

How sad...
I can't imagine how the razorback nation is dealing with this.
It would be like the Dawgs losing Larry Munson.
